Lulu Press published my first book, “The Geis”, (a Medieval Romance set in 13th century Ireland). Geis is a Celtic word meaning that which is forbidden. It is the first in the Dair Keep series. The second book in the series “The Magic Stone” has been published by Wild Horse Press. I am currently working on the third book in the series, tentatively titled “Oisin Daughter of the Forest.” I live in West Haven, Utah with my husband. We love to travel and have visited Ireland where I began my research for the Dair Keep series. We have two sons, a daughter and two grandchildren. I am a member of the Utah Romance Writers of America. My hobbies include reading, scrap booking, sewing, jewelry making and stained glass.

Della Markus sat on a bench in the park and stared at the birds pecking the ground where she threw the seeds. She came here often to contemplate her lonely life. Nothing exciting ever happened and she mostly lived through others’ happiness and gaiety.

She wouldn’t say she was depressed, just lonely. She was a large woman, not fat but tall and robust. She was well shaped for her size but men didn’t find her attractive, not even big men. Every time she sat in the park, she wished for a man to love who would love and accept her as she was. Each time she went home to her apartment, which was across the street from the park, it was to nothing and no one.

Today she decided not to go straight home but went to the antique store on the corner a block away. She entered the store and the man behind the counter greeted her with a ‘can I help you’ but Della said No thanks I just want to browse.

She wandered through the store until she came upon what appeared to be a very old leather bound book titled ‘Cantor the Giant’. Having never heard of the tale, she puzzled over the volume as she ran a hand over the surface. It felt alive. How strange that a book should feel alive. She opened the cover to see if there was a price posted on the inside.

The price was fifty dollars; way too much for her to spend on a book. Sighing, she closed the book, and then she thought she heard the sound of someone weeping. She looked around and saw no one but the sound persisted. When she took her hand off the book, the sound grew louder. As she turned away from the book a voice said, Please take me with you.

Della shook her head to clear it. The voice came to her again loud and clear. I’m so lonely here, please take me with you. She looked back over her shoulder and she could have sworn the book was breathing. The book was speaking to her in a way Della understood all too clearly. In all her life, she had never heard of a book being able to communicate verbally with anyone and especially not her.

"Take me home with you; I promise
