tmp_db0df2d58c09818346d7bbe28f85f13c_6fY9gJ_html_m331abf84.jpgOne summer holiday, when Jerry was four years old, his grandmother from Germany came to visit him in Australia.
This was the first time Jerry had ever met his grandmother.
Germany was on the other side of the world and so, it was very special that she was coming to meet him for the first time.
The family called her Oma
. This means Grandmother
in German.
Oma was very cool. She walked with Jerry along the beach every morning.
Even though Oma couldn't speak English and Jerry could only speak a little German, they got along very well. They would walk together quietly and look at things along the way.
When Oma smiled, it would make Jerry feel happy.
On the way back from the beach, Oma would always buy the biggest ice cream for him, with three flavors and a chocolate-coated cone.
Sometimes, Oma would even play soccer with Jerry in the backyard. The rest of the family would tell her to take a rest, but she loved to play with him.
Jerry loved her dearly. She was very cool indeed.

This made the family very sad because Germany was far away and they knew that they may never see Oma again.
Jerry was the saddest of them all.
He knew he would miss walking on the beach with her and of course, the ice-creams she bought for him.
On the morning of the day Oma was going to leave, the two friends decided to go for one last walk along the beach. While they were watching the boats drift by, she handed Jerry a seed. Oma asked him to plant it in the backyard.
