“Wildlife photojournalist” is just another name for “mule” because I often find myself in remote places schlepping heavy loads of photography and camping gear. But the end results of my animal quests are usually worth the exertion. I’ve been writing about and photographing wild- life (especially birds) since middle school, where my classmates dubbed me “Birdman” at age twelve. After thirty-plus years of working as a newspaper photographer and columnist, I now host science-based live-owl programs with my wife, Marcia. We care for fifteen non-releasable raptors, including a snowy owl. Check out our website: eyesonowls.com.

INTRODUCTION
I hope you enjoy this mix of random thinking and humor that has been pieced together. I have to unofficially refer to myself as a kind of comment king based on remarks to things I have seen, heard, felt, experienced, and whatever other sensation that relates.
Much of my humor is in response to things people say as opposed to being the aggressor of humor although I have my moments. In the past, family and friends have asked me to become a stand up comedian, but my fear has been that I need someone to say or do something for me to make a comment, whereas a real comedian seems to have this gift to entertain with original stories and jokes for longer periods of time without the need to bounce off of someone’s initial statements, and actions. I do have a few stories of my own that are shared here.
Some of my humor is proverbial and some of my proverbial statements are more philosophical than humorous, but the mode nonetheless is to be entertaining without becoming too preachy. I am not a fence straddler but I do flip flop from being liberally conservative without becoming too conservative about being liberal. I think there is a time and a place for most everything in regards to an opinion. I just consider myself conservative in some ways and liberal in others.
I feel that my humor has often saved my life, figuratively and literally, and I used it as a kind of shield growing up. Humor without friends was my best friend at times. I was a skinny dork growing up. If I wasn’t liked, I pulled out my humor. If I was aggressively hated, my defense was to make people laugh against their will.
I remember in 7th through 8th grade realizing humor on shows had formulas that made the academics in humorology very illusive. Jokes had a style on
