Yazılışının ve yayınlanışının on beşinci yılında, Almanya ve yabancı kimlikli insan serüvenleriyle Söylence Berlin'de, ölümsüz söylenceleriyle Berlin kenti masal tadında yaşamaktadır. Berlin Senatosu Kültür Başkanlığının davetiyle (1991-93) Sönmez'in Almanya'da yaşayarak yazdığı roman. Modern Avrupa Türkçesi ile yazılmış ve şimdiden klasik olmaya aday, umutsuz bir aşk baladı, evrensel bir dünya romanı Söylence Berlin...

İki yıl süren yaşam deneyimleriyle Hindistan, Nepal, Meksika, Guatemala, Bolivya, Peru gibi ülkelerde kültür gazeteciliği yapan romancı Sönmez, hemen bu çalışmaların içinde Meksika, Guatemala dönüşü 1991 yılı sonunda Berlin Kültür Senatosu'nun konuğu olarak Berlin'de yitik bir zaman yaşadı ve Söylence Berlin adlı bu romanı yazdı.
