Dwayne Conyers

Dwayne Conyers completed his undergraduate studies in the Department of Radio, Television and Film, entering the United States Air Force to command video production teams. A last-minute switch moved him into a highly technical career field where he supported four-star generals, members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, and NATO commanders. The highlight of his military career was writing and producing a video for President Reagan that was presented in the Oval Office. He later went on to meet and work for Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. He wrote and produced a plethora of static and interactive videos and briefings. These were widely distributed to over 1,000 offices throughout the Department of the Air Force. Additionally, two US Army Commands and one US Navy Fleet were also appreciative recipients of these materials.Post-military, he graduated top of his class in the Warner Bros. Comedy Writers Workshop under the mentorship of Samm-Art Williams. He also studied screenwriting with Marc Lapadula at the University of Pennsylvania, Luigi DiFonzo at Harvard, Michael Hague, and Carl Sautter via the American Film Institute. Through Lapadula, he obtained representation with Vincent Cirrincione and was assigned an episode of the late ABC series Living Dolls (starring Oscar® winner Halle Berry and King of Queens star Leah Remini). He later accepted an offer to spend a year in the Republic of Singapore where he worked with American, British and Singaporean personnel to produce interactive training videos and computer based training modules. After returning to the United States, he became Executive Producer of independent film “High Point.” He raised the majority of the production budget and arranged foreign and domestic distribution opportunities. His writing continued to win honors, including 2nd Place in the OBS Screenplay Competition (resulting in a meeting with Overbrook Entertainment), a score of 8 out of 10 on the Black List (resulting in a meeting with Film Engine), in addition to honors at the 2010 and 2016 Beverly Hills Film Festival and Cinequest.Since moving to Los Angeles, Dwayne joined Veterans in Film and Television. He was selected by VFT to participate in a writing mentorship with the Writers Guild of America Foundation under mentors including Saul Turteltaub, Jeremy Stevens, Timothy Wurtz, Karen Struck, Marie Weiss, and Brian Anthony.Dwayne is writer and producer of six web series, one of which is “broadcast” via Amazon Prime. Dwayne continues to write, rewrite and polish a variety of feature specs and TV pilots while volunteering his services to help other military veterans through the Writers Guild of America one-year mentorship. His unique experiences in the United States, Europe and Asia – combined with his ability to work seamlessly on both creative and scientific pursuits – promise great value to the evolving entertainment industry.

    IT CONSUMES ME

Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house. And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD’S house. And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, [saying], For [he is] good; for his mercy [endureth] for ever. (2nd Chronicles 7:1-3)

The desire to know God can be likened to a consuming fire. It is a passion that holds a parallel to the passion between a man and a woman. While many may bristle at a comparison between the cardinal and the spiritual, remember that the church is referred to as ‘the bride of Christ’ and that the major event of the second coming of Messiah is referred to as ‘the wedding feast.’

A major difference… or is it a similarity… is that this passion is not so easily consummated. We are oriented towards our physical world, yet God exists as a Spiritual Being. It takes an inward focus to our spiritual sides to connect with the object of our consuming passion. Often, this is easier said than done… and more often a source for much cogitation.

This poem defines the voice of the first volume… a consuming passion toward God centrism.

The sweet delight of the pain of life

It draws me to another day

On goes the fight to uphold the light

The God to Whom i give all praise

His precious love -- it consumes me

The Holy Dove -- it consumes me

    His Throne, His righteousness

The zeal to serve my God

    It consumes me

No sting in death Just a peaceful rest

When Jesus comes, it won’t be long

    This world’s a joke where the ‘un-awoke’

Pursue the things that’ll soon be gone

To be the best -- it consumes me

To pass this test -- it consumes me

    To see the battle end

    And enter in His rest

    It consumes me

What is real? What is fake?

God, let me know for Jesus’ sake

Send Holy Fire -- to consume me

You, i desire -- to consume me

The sweet delight Of the pain of life

There’s something here i’m trying to find

Within my grasp what i hope will last

The promised hope I’m bound to find

My tears, they fall -- to extinguish

Those flames that oft cause cause me anguish

    About what i can’t distinguish

My heart’s desire -- it eludes me

The tightrope wire -- there to prove me

Send Holy fire -- to consume me

You’re my desire -- Lord, consume me

    How Long, Oh Lord

[I had fainted], unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. (Psalms 27:13-14)

I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. My soul [waiteth] for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: [I say, more than] they that watch for the morning. (Psalms 130:5-6)

I was listening to a tape by Joyce Meyer in which she recounted an experience with one of her children. It was enlightening for a number of reasons.

Apparently the child was hungry and cried for milk. The baby’s cries caused Joyce to instinctively produce milk. The problem, however, was that the child was too busy crying to stop and feed. Meanwhile, Joyce was getting uncomfortably full as the milk continued to come as the baby continued to cry.

The name El Shaddai is ascribed to God as The All-Sufficient One. This is the mother with the endless supply of milk. Yet, how often do we go hungry because we spend more time crying than we do receiving from Him?

    How long, Oh Lord

    will i wait forever

To receive the blessing from Your Hand?

    i walk in grace

    And Your lovingkindness

Though i am a stranger in this land

    i know the truth

    of Your word, You’re faithful

You never lie and you never fail

    But on this road

    in this darkened valley

Feeling like a ship without a sail

    How long, Oh Lord

    will my faith sustain me?

Does my Father hear my spirit groan

    i hope in You

    You’ll never forsake me

    When i’m wounded; all alone

    Your promise stands

You’ve made it; i’ve claimed it

But waiting seems to have no end

    Reject the lies

    Of the enemy – deceiver

By Jesus’ blood, yes I can stand

    How long, Oh Lord

    i will never doubt You

I’ll will sing Your praises in this land

    My confidence

    i’m an overcomer!

i will never let go of Your hand
