    Abraham’s Testing

    With a heavy heart, Abraham approached the mountain

    With his promised son, Isaac, walking by his side;

    The one so long awaited for by God’s servant, Abraham,

    The only son of Sarah, Abraham’s beloved bride.

    Tears ran down his leathered, old face,

    And his heart felt like it would break in two;

    Yet steadily he strode onward to the mountain,

    Not understanding what God had asked him to do.

    They gathered rock with which they built an altar,

    With Isaac wondering what the sacrifice would be;

    Abraham bound Isaac and laid him on the altar;

    Then Isaac realized, This sacrifice is to be me.

    With his knife held high, Abraham cried out,

    "Above all, oh my God, may Thy will be done;

    I will follow you to the ends of the earth,

    Even if it means the life of my beloved son."

    Wait, came the cry from the Lord on high;

    "I have provided a lamb to sacrifice instead;

    I had to know the depth of your love

    And your commitment to follow wherever I led."

    Unspeakable joy filled old Abraham’s heart

    When he heard the words of the Lord;

    He had passed the test, and now he could keep

    The son promised by God that he and Sarah adored.

    God repeated the promises He made so long ago,

    Bringing peace to Abraham’s heart and joy to his soul;

    Now he most truly would follow God’s Word,

    And following God would be his highest goal.

    Affirmation

    When despair happens to enter your mind,

    Here are some words to enlighten your day;

    Remember, deep from within your heart,

    That discouragement really can go away.

    I know I belong to the Father;

    I know that He is mine;

    I know that I am of His fruit,

    And that I am growing on the vine.

    He is the strength that is within me,

    And through Him I can overcome any test;

    Because the Lord I serve is a winner,

    He always gives me His very best.

    I am His ambassador here on earth,

    And it is in Him whom I put my trust;

    He placed His light within me to shine,

    And shine through me I know it must.

    I believe from the very depths of my heart,

    And I have faith in what He can do;

    He is the anchor I have in this life;

    I will trust Him like He wants me to.

    Afraid to Try?

    Afraid to fail? Afraid to try?

    Afraid to stretch your wings and fly?

    If freedom lies but a few steps away,

    If you’re afraid to try, that’s where it’ll stay.

    In this body that God has given

    Lie many talents that have not yet risen;

    Do you want them to wither and fade away

    Like the old flowers of yesterday?

    Learn by mistakes, we all must do,

    But don’t let them get the best of you;

    Be not afraid of what others may say,

    If a failure should happen to dampen your way.

    Hold in your heart no fear to fail,

    And be determined that you will prevail;

    There is a power within your life

    That is far above all earthly strife.

    Let us call upon that power today,

    And ask Him to cast all fears away;

    Jesus is our power that lives inside;

    When we call on Him, fear will subside.
