About this audiobook

Next Door (A Chloe Fine Mystery) is book #1 in a new psychological suspense series by bestselling author Blake Pierce.

FBI Evidence Response Team intern Chloe Fine, 27, finds herself forced to confront her own dark past when her troubled twin sister needs her help—and when a body turns up dead in her small, suburban town.

Chloe feels life is finally perfect as she moves back into her home town, and into a new house with her fiancé. Her career with the FBI looks promising, and her wedding is on the horizon.

But, she learns, all is not as it seems in suburbia. Chloe begins to see the underside—the gossip, the secrets, the lies—and she finds herself haunted by her own demons: her mother’s mysterious death when she was 10, and her father’s imprisonment.

And when a fresh body is found, Chloe soon realizes that her past, and this small town, might hold the key to solving both.

An emotionally wrought psychological suspense with layered characters, small-town ambiance and heart-pounding suspense, Next Door is book #1 in a riveting series that will leave you turning pages late into the night.

Monotone reading. Hard to pay attention, as previous users have said little character development. Avoid

It wasn’t bad but not great either. I really don’t like when characters speak and they don’t sound like real people. I know it is a book but it had completely unrealistic procedures, none of this would happen in real life. A relative would never be able to formally solve a case and not have every bit of evidence thrown out in court. It was just disappointing.

Some plat holes but fast paced and entertaining. Worth a listen

Fantasy meets poor writing. Blake Pierce isn't a good writer; she is good at finding a plot to which you want to know the ending. As the book ends, the protagonist's one-dimensional, self-centred finance and family are happily out of the storyline.

Meh. Same old: has a , shared childhood trauma which haunts them now, comes up in the case...

One of the worst books I've ever read. There was little to no character or scene development, and events just unfolded by convenience without any motivation or reason. It reminded me of something I would've written in junior high school.

Liked the book. The narrator absolutely sucked. There was NO connotation/feeling in the speaking. Kind of like Charlie Brown’s teacher….wahh, wahhh, wahhh. Maybe opt to read instead.

Infantile. I listened to a few chapters but it just got worse.

An enjoyable enough mystery that sees trainee FBI agent Chloe return to her hometown with her new fiance. Chloe wants to mend fences with her twin sister, their relationship has been strained since her father murdered their mother when the girls were ten years old. But trouble has a way of following Chloe's sister Danielle around, and soon a body is found, with all the evidence pointing at Danielle. Can Chloe find a way to prove her sister's innocence? Is Danielle even innocent?

A quick and easy to read crime novel, I did enjoy it, but I think I will find it to be forgettable. It's an okay read for a few hours on a quiet weekend, but honestly, I can't see myself picking up the rest of the series.

Meh, hardly a “psychological thriller”. Basic plot and hard to believe. Narrator was good.
