I laughed. I cried. I loved.

The Narration by Ashley Rose Kaplan and Christian Leatherman is excellent. They’re both truly talented and succeeded with all the characters in this book. Highly recommend this audiobook.

Courting War is a mysterious and dark enemies to lovers. Hazel St. Lewis did an excellent job of intertwining Greek and Irish Mythology into this storyline. A story you find immortal gods & goddesses tormenting humans through a game called The Sacrifice. It felt very much like the Hunger Games mixed with bits of Game of Thrones.

I truly did not expect to have the reaction I did with Courting War. This romantasy was written for the Nesta girls. If you found bits of yourself inside Nesta Archeron, this book is for you.

You know a book hits you emotionally, when you find yourself crying in your car on the way to work. Theodra, the Goddess of War, has debilitating scars and traumas from her past. Her inner dialogue is diabolical. Theo believes that she deserves hurt, punishment, and pain. She believes that she is the villain and the monster in her story. It was the way that Hazel St. Lewis wrote Theo’s thought in such a repetitive way. To most that might be annoying, but it was the most real thing I’ve seen in a book.

Hazel did an absolutely amazing job painting the picture just how deep Theo’s wounds ran. In fact, throughout this novel she had excellent character and world building. It didn’t take much effort to envision this universe.

My favorite part of it all was in Prince Kellyn. He too had his own struggles with dyslexia, and doubting himself. His inner dialogue made him believe he was a dumb brute. It was that understanding in him that he was able to love and understand Theo. What truly broke me was when he said “You’re not a villain in my story, Theo.” All the girls who are hard on themselves need a Kellyn.

So ya, I loved this book. There’s more I could touch on. But this part of the book hit me the hardest.
