About this audiobook
My name is Calliope and "I bone for a living." Kidding. I am studying to be a paleontologist though. It's the only thing I've ever wanted to be, and I have finally landed the perfect museum internship to make all of my dino-loving dreams come true.
Trouble is, everyone wants me to be a gentle, loving sort of creature, but I'm more of the T-Rex type by nature - the kind who is determined to stomp and tear her way through any obstacle in order to get what she wants.
But when a sexy, rumbly-voiced astronomer plummets into my orbit and threatens to break open my hard little heart, my career and my whole way of looking at the world is suddenly on the line.
The dinosaurs didn't see their asteroid coming.
And I sure as hell wasn't prepared for mine.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Oh man. Ok. I mean....I'm all about the banter, and the quirky characters. But there were three books' worth stuffed into this one story.
It started out strong, and I was feeling impressed with Erin as a writer...but even before the elevator scene was over, my brain was starting to boggle at the completely unrealistic way these two people were talking to one another.
And certainly "unfiltered" was exactly what Erin was going for in the heroine, but her character was OVER THE TOP unbelievable in her interactions with the other characters.
And I'm not even the person who whines "Real people would never act like this" when reading rom coms. Not that that is my favorite thing, either....but I remind myself that a lot of rom com movies are the same way.
And indeed, I found myself feeling like this was more like a screenplay than it was a romance novel. But there were moments that were just WINCINGLY bad.
Like the language the h threw around. Again, I'm not a prude about that; it's not language I use in my day to day life, but I'm pretty numb to the F word at this point. But the way the h used it in speaking to her boss, and good grief, in a public speech....it was just way too outrageous.
And the whole 'shrooms and sex during an EVENT FOR CHILDREN stuff was just....so problematic. On SO many different levels. Again, I tried hard not to take it all too seriously, but...it was just much too much.
And that describes the whole book. TOO MUCH banter. TOO MUCH quirk. TOO MUCH faith-bashing. TOO TOO TOO TOO much everything.
I'm not writing Erin Mallon off as an author, and this was strong as a first effort...but I hope that in the future she dials the madcap-pery down from 25 to, you know, like, a reasonable 10.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Erin Mallon has done it again with this fresh new take on rom-com, setting new records for snark. I giggled a lot while listening to this book and enjoyed it very much! I was a bit irritated with the characters at times - but in a way that means I was invested in them and in their story. Calliope is driven, snarky, and not afraid to stand up for herself - sometimes to a degree that is self sabotaging. Her love for paleontology, and dinosaurs in particular, is deep and adorable. Ralph is a fabulously sexy nerd, and I loved it! The originality of this story was refreshing & even educational. Erin's love for these characters bleeds through in her stellar performance!! Mabel is quirky and very high energy, so I'm really looking forward to her adventures in the next book!
