About this audiobook

Twenty-five years ago, the hand of fate marked four newborns and sent them to the four corners of the Great Kingdoms. They were schooled and trained as rulers of their lands in preparation for the Golden Eclipse ceremony: a festival to celebrate a thousand years of peace and prosperity since the Great War.

Crow, ruler of Northlands, a skilled swordsman and expert tactician, is as reclusive and stoic as the mountains that surround him. Tancho has spent his life in strict discipline, governing the Westlands with a fair mind and gentle hand. Quiet and unassuming, yet lethal in combat, he is the embodiment of the waters he lives by.

Yet the same hand of fate unknowingly linked Tancho to Crow in ways they cannot comprehend. Ruled by the stars, the brother sun and the two sister moons above them, and marked by an alchemical sorcery as old as time, their destinies were never their own.

As the eclipse draws near and the festival begins, word comes of another threat. Invaders from unknown lands bring a war no one was prepared for, and Crow and Tancho must decide on which side of the battle line they stand.

In life or death, their destinies will see them joined either way.

~ Lacuna is a 92,000 word story of swords and sorcery, action and adventure, and romance.

The narrator did an excellent job voicing so many characters, switching smoothly between accents so I always knew who was speaking. The plot seems a bit contrived and the writing gave me whiplash sometimes, but the characters were lovable and I was grinning and laughing throughout the story, so there's no doubt I enjoyed this book! If you can suspend your disbelief and just enjoy the ride, I recommend you listen to this one.

This is a great high fantasy book! The description doesn’t do it justice. Awesome world building and interesting story.

As a gay guy, I really wanted to like this. Unfortunately, as I am over 10 years old, I was not the target audience. I have read YA novels that are more highbrow than this. The story is infantile, the writing is pedestrian and the characters are two dimensional. Maybe a straight female author doesn't have the experience to write gay novels with depth and breadth (she's got over 70 gay novels apparently!)

The story is rather interesting, but there are too many dialogues. The point is the relationship between two main characters. Description of their feelings and concerns. As I study English that's why this book is ok for me, I practiced my listening skills. I've just finished the audiobook while doing my chores) It could be better with more details and less gaps in the storyline.

Loved the world building and the mythos. Very interesting. I hope NR Walker writes a sequel- I would be so down!

A listenable book. A found many aspects of the book amusing -- the romance aspect felt well done, even though the characters were very two-dimensional and the dialogue left much to be desired. The story was weak and there was a lot of being told, not shown, along the way -- at times I felt like I was spoon-fed the story. Some of the names and places were clearly Asian and yet the characters were supposedly white? I never got some of the characters straight and had to use context clues to figure out who was doing what a lot of the time.

But! All that said. I still enjoyed it and listened to it in one day, so it earned my 4 stars as a readable read with a lot of emotional payoff and a satisfying, slow burn.

The narrator did a fantastic job reading this book. Zero complaints there.
