As a rookie detective, Liv DeMarco has a lot to learn and some big shoes to fill. Her father was a decorated police captain, respected and beloved. But Liv’s quick rise through the ranks has made many in the department question her abilities. Most days, she feels like only her partner has her back.

To prove herself, Liv volunteers for the cases no one wants. Her latest assignment has her investigating a string of car thefts. The primary suspect, Axel Kincaid, is a nightclub owner and known car thief with a history of violence. But according to him, he’s reformed. And since his club keeps half the judges and city officials entertained, collecting enough evidence to put him behind bars is next to impossible.

Just as Liv is ready to throw in the towel on her undercover work, two exotic sports cars are taken from a hotel parking lot and a valet is killed. Surveillance footage places Kincaid at the scene, but Liv needs to collect more evidence if she wants the charges to stick. In order to get it, she will have to get close to Kincaid, closer than anyone has ever gotten. But he has a sixth sense about cops, and he's already suspicious of her. One misstep could prove fatal, especially when backup isn’t always close by.

Not a fan of the reader changing her voice. Storyline may have been more interesting if not for the reader, sorry!
