About this audiobook

Haunted by her sister’s disappearance, a troubled woman becomes consumed by past secrets in this gripping thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of The Vanishing Year.

When Hannah Maloney’s aunt dies in a car accident, she returns to her family’s castle in the Catskills and the epicenter of a childhood trauma: her sister’s unsolved disappearance. It’s been seventeen years, and though desperate to start a new life with her fiancé, Hannah is compelled to question the events of her last summer at Brackenhill.

When a human bone is found near the estate, Hannah is convinced it belongs to her long-lost sister. She launches her own investigation into that magical summer that ended in a nightmare. As strange happenings plague the castle, Hannah uncovers disturbing details about the past and startling realizations about her own repressed childhood memories.

Fueled by guilt over her sister’s vanishing, Hannah becomes obsessed with discovering what happened all those years ago, but by the time Hannah realizes some mysteries are best left buried, it’s too late to stop digging. Overwhelmed by what she has exposed, Hannah isn’t sure her new life can survive her old ghosts.

It was fine but I figured out many of the twists way ahead of time. I also was disappointed a bit with the ending. I don’t regret listening to it. It just didn’t blow me away. To be fair, with all the many, many books I read and given my age, a book has to be pretty exceptional in order for me to be wowed.

Just couldn't get into this and I'm afraid the reader annoyed me, very breathy, just couldn't keep listening to her. I'm afraid I didn't finish it.

Hannah receives the horrible news that her Aunt Fae has been in a terrible accident and may not survive...this brings her back to Brackenhill, the place of her dreams and her nightmares. Returning to Brackenhill brings to life the mystery surrounding her sister's disappearance and uncovers mysteries she never knew existed. Reliving her past makes Hannah more sure than ever that Brackenhill is not the magical paradise she believed it to be...there were dangers lurking around every corner.

Kate Moretti has done a wonderful job of keeping a steady-paced story that keeps the reader invested and interested. There were small twists and turns that I didn't see coming and they added to the allure of the story. I will definitely be looking into Moretti's backlist and discovering more of her wonderful stories. If you are looking for an enjoyable thriller that will keep you interested - this is definitely worth the time.

I read this book a few weeks ago and ran through it like gravy flooding mashed potatoes. The only problem is that very little stayed with me. It was a fast read and I just don’t remember much about it. If you are looking for something quick, give it a try. If you are looking for something with deeper meaning I am not so sure.Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for a copy

This gothic thriller pulls you in from page one!Upon hearing news that her estranged aunt had died in a car accident, Hannah returns to the family estate she left seventeen years before. An estate that is home to many secrets, mysterious disappearances, and things that go bump in the night. This multi-layered plot takes many twists and turns as Hannah searches for answers to questions that have haunted both her, and the small town that is home to Brackenhill. Finding the truth will test her sanity and endanger her life. This gripping fast paced novel keeps the suspense level high as the story weaves through alternating timelines, fitting the pieces together one at a time. What is revealed is both chilling and haunting. There have been mixed reviews on the ending. I enjoyed the entire story. The ending left just enough so there could possibly be a sequel, or it could just be left to the reader as a stand alone.
