About this audiobook

Lieutenant Eve Dallas puzzles over a bizarre suicide bombing in a Wall St. office building in Leverage in Death, the next in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from J.D. Robb…

For the airline executives finalizing a merger that would make news in the business world, the nine a.m. meeting would be a major milestone. But after marketing VP Paul Rogan walked into the plush conference room, strapped with explosives, the headlines told of death and destruction instead. The NYPSD’s Eve Dallas confirms that Rogan was cruelly coerced by two masked men holding his family hostage. His motive was saving his wife and daughter—but what was the motive of the masked men?

Despite the chaos and bad publicity, blowing up one meeting isn’t going to put the brakes on the merger. All it’s accomplished is shattering a lot of innocent lives. Now, with the help of her billionaire husband Roarke, Eve must untangle the reason for an inexplicable act of terror, look at suspects inside and outside both corporations, and determine whether the root of this crime lies in simple sabotage, or something far more complex and twisted.

Leverage In Death was a very fascinating strong background of a psychopaths mindset is all about. They hurt, they kill, and they destroyed lives just because they can without a care of how and who they hurt. This two proceeded to do just that and more to people who they think cannot protect themselves.
The art of cowdis is harming little kids in front of their parents knowing fully well no parents will take it. Using good men to hurt their employees who trustworthy is dependent upon them.

The main characters in Nora Roberts 'in death' series are so believable and totally brought to life by their individual characteristics, mannerisms, attitudes, quirks & so on. The plot for each story is always intricate & well thought, & although some of the murders are very graphic & horrendous & also heart wrenching (especially knowing that similar things actually happen in reality), but the sarcastic wise cracks & sense of humor like when Eve gets mad at Peabody (who always manages to keep calm in her 'free ager' way :) balances the stories so well! & makes me laugh so much :) I just love that kind of humor! It's abso-megalicious (as Mavis would say :) Last but not least Susan Ericksen gives life to each and every character. She is the perfect voice for each character, & such a talented narrator!!

Family man Paul Rogan walks into his office as his company is about to strike the deal of a lifetime wearing an explosive suicide vest, muttering that there must be another way. The ensuing explosion makes no sense until Eve Dallas and her investigative team discover that his family was being used as leverage to coerce him to blow himself up, taking several of his friends and coworkers with him. Eve wastes no time following evidence that leads her to a long-planned plot to exploit the volatility of the stock market, after such an event, to manipulate stock prices in order to "make a killing."
J.D. Robb never fails to impress. As with the previous 46 books in the In Death series, this one has a well written plot and an interesting mystery. Familiar characters from the series are included as both part of the case and to add humor to an oblivious Eve Dallas as the movie, The Icove Agenda, is up for several Academy Awards.
Another great entry in the In Death series; I'm looking forward to the next one.

Eve and Peabody are on the case of a man forced to wear a suicide vest to work and detonate it to save his wife and child. There is no known motivation for this crime and they must work every angle to figure out who benefits from this random violence. A former relationship of one of the victims slowly reveals the thread that they tug to bring down the entire case and find the bad guys. The secondary plot line is rather small since it has to do with the Oscars for the Icove movie. I did like that Eve admitted that it bothers her that the book keeps getting mentioned to her all the time. At some point in the future that may go away but I don’t see it happening for a while. Another good solid read with all the usual things happening in every book.

Very good entry in the Eve Dallas series. This is more of a procedural than a whodunit. The whodunit is never disguised once Eve follows the clues but the why and how are more important. Also, it's nice that it isn't Eve or a member of her team or Roake's that is endangered. This is more pure mystery.

A good man walks into a meeting discussing a merger between two airlines and detonates the explosives in a vest on his body. Eve catches the case and quickly learns that Paul Rogan was coerced by men holding his family hostage. But what did the two men want? What good would killing a dozen people and delaying a merger do?Luckily, Eve has on tap a financial consultant - her husband Roarke - who can help her figure out what some possible motives might be. It seems that the most likely motive is to make money when the threat of terrorism causes panic on Wall Street and the stocks lose value only to rebound when the news that the merger will go through after all. Knowing the motive doesn't initially help Eve find out who planned this brutal scheme. Interviewing survivors and running down suspects to try to find leads is the reality of this investigation. Then, when a person of interest is found dead with a broken neck and dumped in s reservoir in Central Park, Eve knows that she's getting closer. Then a second incident happens. This time a rising artist is killed in the gallery setting up his first show, his loft is broken into, and his art is either stolen or destroyed. Eve needs to find this pair of killers before they can strike again -- as Eve is sure they will.Wrapping around this main plot is the build up to the Academy Awards. Nadine Furst is up for an Oscar for adapting her book The Icove Agenda for the screen. The film is also up for Best Picture. Mavis is up for an Oscar for the Best Song. Eve absolutely does not want to attend the Oscar festivities but Nadine has invited Peabody and McNab. Attending the Oscars has been a life-long dream of Peabody's but find these killers might make it impossible for her to get away. Eve knows what it means to her partner and so recruits Roarke to fill in for Peabody while she's gone. This was another great episode in a long-running series. Fans won't want to miss it.

Dallas, Roarke, Peabody, and the rest are confronting a nasty pair of killers, smart, capable, but definitely not pros, engaged in a bizarre and deadly form of market manipulation. The very first victim is a man who walks into the meeting where the luxury airline he works for and an economy airline are going to finalize their merger, and blows himself up with a suicide vest, killing eleven other people and injuring more.

He had absolutely no discernible motive to do this. He was heard to say to the president of his company, right before he detonated the bomb, "I'm sorry, I don't have a choice." He had plans for celebrations after the meeting, first with his own staff, and then with his wife and daughter.

The wife and daughter are found, alive but somewhat battered, and bound with zip ties, at home.

Dallas is challenged at first to even work out what the motive for the crime is, but both one of her men, Baxter, who invests his own money cautiously in the stock market, and her very own "expert consultant, civilian," Roarke, who has gotten very rich understanding not just his beloved computer systems, but also markets, explain what will happen to the two companies' stock. First it will crash. Then it will be announced that the merger is still on, and it will climb in value again. There will be a narrow window when someone who is prepared to move immediately can make a very handsome profit.

With the first success, it seems inevitable that the killers will strike again, but where? There aren't that many high-profile mergers close to completion at any one time, especially since there's evidence suggesting the killers are likely to want to stay local. What else can they manipulate the same way?

They find out all too soon.

As with any case involving multiple murders and a killer or killers who don't plan to stop, it's a tense and stressful time. I'm reminded again in this book how both Dallas and Peabody have grown into their roles, and how both Dallas and Roarke have tackled their own personal issues, and the challenges of two such strong personalities from such different backgrounds being married to each other.

Dallas is also mastering a role that comes much more naturally to both Roarke and Somerset: being part of the extended family of Mavis and Leonardo's young daughter, Bella. I think it is maybe even not freaking Dallas out quite so much that she's starting to understand Bella!

But the new stress in this book is that the movie based on tv reporter friend Nadine's book about the Icove case, The Icove Agenda, is up for an Oscar. Well, several Oscars. Best Movie, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Song (Mavis, of course.) Probably several others, too, but these are the ones stressing Dallas out!

Somehow she keeps all the balls in the air, as she always does, and it's another satisfying visit with Dallas and company.

Also, I was struck this time by just how much Susan Eriksen is just the right voice, and the right reader for the In Death series.

    Recommended.

When devoted, loving husband and father Paul Rogan walks into Quantum Air's NY HQ the morning of a major merger and sets off a suicide vest, all hell breaks loose for Lt. Eve Dallas and her team. Why did this wonderful man kill himself and 11 others? Dallas realizes that this is very much a game to two people who think kidnapping and terrorizing a wife and her child, forcing the man to kill himself and others is a great form of entertainment. Dallas needs to identify and stop them before they strike again.

It all begins with a murder...don't they all? But it's a king-sized, over the top murder. A mild mannered account manager...loyal employee and loving family man walks into a merger meeting and blows himself and 12 other people up. Now Detective Eve Dallas thinks it's all about the money. It's not only about money... but as the title says...it's about Leverage. What's not to love about this series and these wonderful, sometimes funny characters. "Leverage in Death" can take it's place with the other 46 equally entertaining additions to this series. Can't wait till February to meet Eve's crew again.

Happily, even forty-seven books in, Robb still manages to come up with clever mysteries for a well loved cast of characters. This mystery was particularly good for me, since it had a more valid reason for bringing Roarke in on the investigation (rather than just his "e-skills," which is always a stretch seeing as she has an entire division of cops to do that). This time she needs an expert consultant with outstanding business acumen.A marketing exec walks into a business meeting with a suicide vest on and kills several people. A little diggins reveals that he was coerced to interrupt a huge corporate merger. But, why? Leverage.I have very little understanding of how markets, margins and hedge funds work, so I could sympathize with Eve when Roarke tries to explain. It made the mystery more interesting for me. And, like the last two books, there was more emphasis on the mystery versus personal relationships. The usual cast of characters all appear, and the interaction between them was as delightful as ever, but there was more time on police work.

When a cruelly coerced suicide bomber annihilates a merger finalization meeting, NYPSD Lieutenant Eve Dallas investigates the baffling incident. As she digs into the case, will she find simple sabotage or is something far more sinister behind the inexplicable act of terror? In this, the forty-seventh outing for Eve and company, all the expected characters are in place and the futuristic city remains, as always, well-drawn and completely believable. A complex, well-constructed plot twists and turns, ramping up the suspense while unexpected reveals keep the tension high. Readers are sure to find this unputdownable tale a worthy addition to the IN DEATH canon. Highly recommended.
