Rock and rowdy start to the new year

WELL, my new year got off to quite a bang last weekend, despite attempts by the authorities to put a damper on festivities.

I had already forayed into dreamland when people living nearby set off a firecracker or two and some kids jumped into the pool accompanied by the usual shrieks.

Oh yes, I thought in being sung. I love hearing that song, as it reminds me of the way Tom Waits incorporates it in his beautiful ballad, , off .
