WOW, WHAT A DAY

As the wind picked up and howled between the bridge pylons, I bobbed about with the blue sky beyond me, like an over-inflated life ring at sea. I hummed as I readjusted my position and moved behind one of the pylons. What a day, wow! It must be 22 degrees Celsius, and with low cloud cover too, wow! What a day!

I whistled while I worked, and I worked whenever someone passed along the narrow bridge into the town centre. Not many were passing by, and most ignored me as I came whistling overhead before retreating behind the pylons. A few adjusted their shirts or bags to make sure I could see their government-issued badges. One lady jumped back and nearly dropped her shopping bag. Oops.

As the lady walked off the bridge, she sneezed three times in a row. Sneeze-sneeze-sneeze. I decided to check the pollen count for the area. I called Susan.

Susan hummed as she moved high above the bridge and started doing slow circles in the air. After eight minutes and 30 seconds she stopped and flew past me, towards her place on the grass near the bridge.

“Alan, just look at this pollen count!”

“Wow, boy is that ever moderate!”

“So moderate, what a day!”

Alan made a note of the sneezing lady as “suspect’ and flagged the incident for further monitoring. Three sneezes needs to be recorded even if the pollen count is moderate. A red light pinged up in my vision and I rushed down to hover just over the bridge.
