Bill Rogers
Bill Rogers wrote ten earlier crime fiction novels featuring DCI Tom Caton and his team, set in and around Manchester. The first of these, The Cleansing, was shortlisted for the Long Barn Books Debut Novel Award, and was awarded the e-Publishing Consortium Writers Award 2011. The Pick, The Spade and The Crow was the first in a spin-off series featuring Senior Investigator Joanne Stuart, on secondment to the Behavioural Sciences Unit at the National Crime Agency, located on Salford Quays, Manchester. Formerly a teacher and schools inspector, Bill has four generations of Metropolitan Police behind him. He is married with two adult children and lives near Manchester.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Enjoyed this crime thriller. The way the bodies were hidden was very clever. I did not find it odd (as another reviewer commented) that the lead character was gay, after all we are told in lurid detail about heterosexual relationships in some novels.. Worth reading.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I always prefer books which use real locations and this story is full of places familiar to me in and around Manchester, including the fictional offices of the Bahvioural Sciences Unit of the National Crime Agency (NCA) in Salford Quays. Jo, the lead character has just been seconded to the NCA and is thrown in the deep end with a request to assist on a recently discovered 10 year old murder. Jo and her colleagues realise the significance of the murder scene and follow a hunch that it may be one of similar crimes. Clever plotting and believable characters encouraged me to read this in a day and buy the next book in the series.
