About this audiobook
There are some things even a centuries-old sorcerer hesitates to challenge…
When Nathan Garret’s friend seeks his help investigating a bloody serial killer, the pattern of horrific crimes leads to a creature of pure malevolence, born of hatred and dark magic. Even with all his powers, Nate fears he may be overmatched. But when evil targets those he cares about and he is confronted by dire threats both old and new, Nate must reveal a secret from his recently remembered past to remind his enemies why they should fear him once more.
Born of Hatred, set in modern London with historical flashbacks to America’s Old West, continues the dark urban fantasy of Crimes Against Magic, the acclaimed first book in the gritty and action-packed Hellequin Chronicles.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5At first I thought this was just going to be a law and order story, but then the real story took off. It’s actually better than the first book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5BORN OF HATRED IS THE SECOND IN THE HELLEQUIN CHRONICLES BY STEVE MCHUGH. Like the first book, BORN OF HATRED is, from the firs page forward fast paced, kickass good read! Nate is getting his memories back and the Hellequin, again, pops up to save his ass! Nate is after a serial killer that happens to be a Lich. This guy is bad news! He is strong, has wicked magic and can turn people into ghouls. Nate is really mad at this dude because not only is he raping women but he beat up and kidnapped Tommy ,his best friend ,and his daughter. And lets face it folks, you DONT want to piss off Nate, especially when he resurrects the Hellequin to help destroy this dude.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I had fun with this book. It's a solid entry and about what I expect and enjoy from urban fantasy books. The characters are likable enough, and there's a good mix of magic and real world elements. It's always been entertaining to me to see magical creatures live and adapt to the modern world.
One complaint I do have in the series is the women characters. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, every one of them is incredibly hot and attracted to Nate. It gets distracting and annoying after awhile. Plus, there are also some technical issues with the book such as grammar and spelling, but they weren't too bad.
Other than these minor gripes, I really enjoyed the story being told here. I'm interested in finding out more about Nate's powers and what he's truly capable of. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Born of HatredThe Hellequin Chronicles, Book 2By: Steve McHughNarrated by: James LangtonThis continues the great series. Boy, it is really getting wild! He is getting his memories back and the shit is hitting the fan! Again, the author has two stories going at the same time and again it is for a reason. Both stories are awesome. So much creativity in these stories! I am so enthralled! Love these characters! The narrator is great, the emotions and voices are totally awesome!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The second book in the series, this novel follows developments after Nathan has regained his memory. He is trying to help out a friend while seeking revenge for events in his past. The world established in these novels offers a mix of mythologies and its own set of magical rules. These books are violent and bloody, in the vein of the Joe Pitt series (Charlie Huston). The main character is a super hero type finding ways to overcome every increasingly complicated challenge (and getting a little more beaten and bruised each time). It will be interesting to see where the third book takes Nathan.
