- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5When the quarantine ends I may be a little embarrassed by how many Nora Roberts books I read. Maybe :) Hidden Riches is from the 90's, and many of her books from this time period do not age well, in terms of the chauvinistic attitudes of the male leads and their overbearing actions towards the heroines (and how the heroines all seem to like that sort of thing). But this one isn't bad, and has a strong feminist heroine who can hold her own in a fight. Plus it has charming period details like trying to find a quarter to call the police and asking if one can use one's credit card to make a long distance call.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Isadora 'Dora' Conroy comes from a family of actors, she herself is the owner of an Antiques shop overflowing with beautiful things. She likes her life. She goes to an auction and buys some items that catch her eye, nothing unusual until some of the other buyers start dying. Her new tenant and next-door neighbour is Jed Skimmerhorn, trying to decide if he's going to go back to working with the police, his recent experiences have left him scarred, his life has left him scarred. But the attraction between the two of them is working it's way under both of their skins and making them wonder about a long-term realtionship. Things will change when danger gets closer.I really enjoyed it, finished it with a smile on my face, really what more can you ask from from a book?
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I always enjoy Nora Roberts' books. This one centers around an endearing antiques dealer named Dora who inadvertently buys smuggled goods at auction.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Hidden Riches by Nora RobertsDora Conroy owns an antique shop but others break in. Ex police captain, Jed Skinerhorn, has had to leave the family house-it holds too many memories. The shop is a magnet for trouble because of the shipment that she ordered. Smugglers have put other items inside the trinkets.Hot steamy sex scenes add to this story. Love where the clues lead them to.Lives are lost and they gather to combine forces to fight them together. The one who hired the man to get the items learns of others who are protecting her.Love hearing of the play and theater and the museum where all the collection is held.Love how SING is used in this one!I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really loved this one. A very likable heroine, a great romance and a lot of great and funny side characters. The suspense part was also good. I am not a real Nora Roberts fan, but this was a very good and entertaining read.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Review for the abridged audio CD read by Sandra Burr.I'm a bit surprised to find this book so highly praised on Amazon.co.uk; I found it a bit violent and very cheesy. I was listening to the abridged audio CD, perhaps it was not particularly well abridged, but I don't think that could have drastically altered the story-line. The ending was so predictable and the means of getting there not very inspiring. I have listened to one other Roberts, Midnight Bayou, also an abridged audio CD, but definitely a more enjoyable listen. The story revolves around Dora, who purchases several items for her antiques shop from an auction, it turns out that they are wanted by a ruthless killer, for his personal collection. He will stop at nothing to retrieve them. Meanwhile the sexy hero, Jed, an ex-cop, moves into the spare appartment in Dora's block. They have a love/hate relationship as events progress towards a denouement, both with the crime and the romance.Easy listening for a long car journey but I'm undecided as to what I'm going to do with all the unread Nora Roberts books on my shelves.
