- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I have read others of Garth Nix's books and loved them. So I'm sad to find myself struggling to finish a rather short collection of his tales due to the main character's casual reduction of every woman he meets to "beautiful, but not like the beauty he was used to from the warrior monk women he was raised among", before she dies in the course of his adventure. Really disappointing.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Thoroughly enjoyable & unexpected! Each short story is its own episodic adventure, but since the two protagonists feature in each, it's like a novel, too. Kind of like how you can watch an episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds without knowing an elaborate origin story to understand it. I'm going to check out other Garth Nix books, I love his writing!
