About this audiobook

Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday, the day of her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner...and so is Aiden.

If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training", which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time, she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon. This brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed...and destroyed.

Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than fate...

ALEX IS STILL A WHINEY CHILD. IT SHOCKS ME THAT THIS 17/18 year old “woman” which they refer to her as “girl” can be so awful. She is so full of herself and sits in her high and mighty throne and throws temper tantrums. Her wining drives me so crazy. It is hard to imagine she can even try to call herself anything but a child.
It is also hard to believe she can be so self centered, because truth be told she has no reason to think she os better than anyone. She is actual an awful “girl” with an awful attitude. I only hope she gets her shit together in the next book or two. She will be considered an adult after all.

The beginning of the book was great...the middle of the book was great...the ending of the book was awesome. Had the best ending ever. Talk about a cliff-hanger. Geesh.

Are you freaking kidding me? What? Armentrout did it again, wow. Deity was so good and so surprising, I had to put it down several times to savor it's goodness, I didn't want to finish in one day. Alexandria's story continues on her path to be the 2nd Apollyon and what a story it is.

Alexandria continues to be the same old fiesty quick to physical violence girl she is. Even though her anxiety driven reactions brings out the parent in me, if she's not strangling someone, she's thinking about it; it has me wanting someone to sit her down and have a talk with her about being respectful and that it's not lady like to hit or threaten others for just speaking to her, I know that she has to deal with more than the typical teenager and anyone in her shoes would surely have an unexpected reaction. Other than having to deal with being the Apollyon, her secret relationship with pure Aiden, losing her best friend, not having that many friends, not knowing who she can really trust, knowing that she will be the cause of Seth possibly becoming the "god killer", and now the guilt of killing a pure in self defense and Aiden's help in covering it up things couldn't get any worse, can it?

Her uncle Marcus, Aiden and Seth won't let her out of their sites, she has round the clock bodyguards and spends most of her time in her room. She's struggling with trusting her instincts about trusting Seth and her wanting to just jump Aiden's bones. She's dealing with the guilt of her best friend Caleb's death and when more people die she knows that she will be at the center of the cause.

Alexandria had to deal with many new trials in Deity, like coming face to face with Telly after killing a pure back at the New York Covenant, that scene was a very tense and had me on edge throughout the entire interaction, I was so nervous at what could happen especially knowing Alex's penchant for not holding back if someone irks her the wrong way. And the times she spends with Seth in her room, marks keep appearing every time their together and Alex starts to wonder if he's making them appear on purpose. Alex also had to open her eyes and mind to see if she can really trust and depend on her uncle Marcus and her step father Lucian. Who is truly on her side?

As for Seth I also struggled along with Alexandria on if he can and should be trusted. I was always torn because putting aside his ego he seems to really care for Alex and seems so hurt by her feelings for Aiden, he came off as hurt little hurt puppy sometimes and it made me feel so bad for him even though it was always Aiden for me. Of course Aiden doesn't trust a bone in Seth's body but Alex decided that he hasn't given her any reason to not trust him, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt to the disagreement of her supporters.

An Aiden, OMG Aiden, he can't seem to stay away for Alex, always getting put on Alex's guard detail. Aiden continues to obviously struggle with his feelings for Alex and trying to keep her safe and keep from acting on her knee jerk reactions at the same time. In Deity, Aiden comes to a conclusion on what to do about his feelings for Alex once and for all because it's getting harder for him to be around her.

Well, let me just say that I was dumbfounded with the contents of this book, in a very good way that is, there are surprises galore. I won't give away too much but it turns out that Alex has more supporters than she's aware of and bad ass ones for that matter. Alexdanria had to go through some really terrible things but they added a lot of really good shock value to the story. I couldn't believe Armentrout had to guts to write some of these things, actually come to think of I do believe it. The mythological twists continues to get more interesting and surprising. The writing was thrilling and heartfelt, I couldn't even write a review immediately, I didn't know what I wanted to say but that I really loved this sequel in the Covenant series it might possibly be my favorite until the next one. There is so much more I would like to say about this book and I still can't seem to put it into words, I might just update my review when my brain starts to function again.

While I enjoyed reading Deity, I'm starting to have a hard time with the characters. I really like the main story-line concerning the Apollyon and the prophecies concerning that. My biggest issue is the love story, which is funny because in the first book the love story was my favorite part. That element, mainly the dialogue, is just so cheesy that I feel like I'm suddenly watching a Lifetime movie. I'll definitely read the rest of the series, because I genuinely do want to find out what happens.

What. In the hell. Just. Happened?
This one was packed, PACKED, with action. And 99% of it was awesomesauce.
I think there's only one way to make me love Aiden more, and that's reading Elixir. Which I'll do in a minute. But in all seriousness, every time he calls Alex agapi mou I want to swoon myself to the next world.
I really like Seth, though, and I know I'm one of few. I really believe he's not himself and is controlled by Lucian. It also helps that I didn't like Lucian from the very beginning.
    Ok, onto Elixir.

*clutches heart* Oh. My. Gods. I am flailing this book was so good! There’s a reason I’m addicted to this series and it’s because JLA is pure genius. The story reads effortlessly, yet it’s complex and full of swoon. If you love mythology and swooning this is for you. I loved, I mean loved this book and I’m saying that with huge flashing, sparkling, neon words. It’s so very, very good, yet so very, very stressful in the best possible way. This book picked up right where Pure left off: Alex is in danger until she awakens as an apollyon, and in the mean time she has to be protected around the clock.

First things first: I love, love, LOVE the chemistry between Alex and Aiden. Aiden is just so unbelieveably unffff. While he is so confident, he is definitely not a bad boy. Don’t let the fear of a goody goody scare you. He is so cool under pressure, that’s right, he mans up whenever he needs to. From fighting to um, other stuff. ;) While she still has a connection to Seth (which is pretty cool!) she knows where her heart belongs. I will not say any more about Alexandria’s relationships but have I mentioned that I LOVED THIS BOOK?

The story is complex and really ramps up the mythology factor, which I loved. Even though it’s bad, I still I loved how Alex was getting more runes. At first it seemed like her awakening was going to be text book….but that would be too easy! Alex was hesitant and it seems she has a good reason to be. There are layers to the story and plenty of betrayals; I wasn’t sure who was going to be the next double crosser. I also was totally shocked at some characters, some were bad and some were holy cow! JLA does not disappoint with twists and turns in a plot that is written so clearly. She does it beautifully and where I least expect it. There were also awesome moments that made me LOL. Like the scrabble. tee hee.

I had a hard time putting this book down, and you won’t either. I was clutching my heart at the end! I cannot wait for the next one, I have no idea what will happen and it’s going to be so hard to wait. Until then, there is the short story, Elixir, which I am about to start…now! I’ve also included a photo of JLA and me when I met her at a signing which you can find in the original blog post. I may look a little sleepy in the photo but I was just starstruck. ;) She was pure awesome.

I am 100%, fully, irrevocably invested in the Covenant series now. What began, for me, as a questionable beginning, seemingly too similar to another series I’ve read and enjoyed, has become a favored set of books, books I would throw down with a fireman over, should my apartment catch ablaze and I need to save my worldly possessions (provided they weren’t ebooks and already on my iPad which would already be in my purse as I deftly jumped out my window to safety. Don’t worry, I’m on the ground floor.).
    Sorry, I got caught up.
Jennifer Armentrout has created a world and a love story matched in very few other young adult books. Some would liken it to Rose and Dimitri of Vampire Academy (I do go on and on about that series, don’t I?), because it was epic and spanned across six novels. Armentrout also has the ability to make her reader (or at least ME) bounce back and forth in the love triangle. Am I Team Aiden or am I Team Seth? I thought I knew in the first book, and then I thought I was sure I knew who I liked in the second. Now I just don’t know. Damn that’s some good writing.
Deity picks up shortly after Pure leaves off: Alex is back at the Covenant after returning from New York with Seth, trying to get over the trauma of having killed a Pure, and letting Aiden “cover it up.” She’s nearing the day of her Awakening, her bond with Seth is growing stronger, and she feels more conflicted than ever about him, but still maintains her love for Aiden. Compound that with the fact that someone on the Council wants her dead and she’s got herself a little quandary. She is desperately seeking to know who is trying to kill her, doesn’t know who to trust and is struggling between who she loves and whom to which she’s Fated. By the way, she ain’t a fan of Fate.
All the characters take on so much more dimension in Deity, more than I thought possible, and this is something I give credit to any author, but I especially give credit to Armentrout for making me like a main character I was ambivalent to in the beginning. Alex has done a lot of growing in these three books, so I can’t imagine what is in store for her next.
I also knew there was more to Seth than met the eye, that he was keeping secrets, but the depth of those secrets, and the reasoning behind them (if I’ve even really learned them yet) was somewhat of a surprise. He has a cruel streak in him, but he’s not irredeemable. There is something good in him, if Alex can only draw it out. The small short at the end of Pure from Seth’s POV truly encapsulates his good nature, even if it’s inconsistent and he often hides it.
Aiden is without a doubt the rock of these books, never changing, always constant and dependable. In fact, if you look up “dependable” in the dictionary, I bet you’ll find Aiden’s picture next to it. It’s hard for me to like to good boys sometimes, but I do like Aiden, and my fondness for him grew exponentially throughout Deity, although I can’t go into details. Let’s just say he’s the reason for my little Team Love Triangle crisis I have going on in my head.
I’m sure you can guess by now that I thought Deity was an excellent follow-up to Half-Blood and Pure. But I wanted to throw… no, wait, I wanted to slug the book (except I can’t, because it’s digital) at someone or something when I reached the ending. Dammit, I was so mad! Unlike other fangirls, because I was very “meh” at the beginning of the series, I did no real research into how many books were in it. I very incorrectly assumed it was a trilogy and thought Alex would be getting her HEA at the end of Deity. I assumed wrong, and Deity ends on a ridiculously awful awesome cliffhanger that left me gnashing my teeth on my knuckles, whimpering because I can’t believe an author would do something so terrible to me like leave me with an ending like that.
Oh wait, Karen Moning did it with Dreamfever. Excuse me while I go rock myself in a corner now.

Deity is action-packed and full of romance, intrigue, and suspense. I could not put this book down, and I was up until 3am reading it when I had to wake up at the crack of dawn the next day and drive 10 hours. Not a good combination. However, this book was definitely worth the sacrifice. Alex grows a ton as a character, the book has plenty of Aiden and Seth, so no matter which team you're on, you'll be happy. Also, there are some pretty amazing surprises. You will not be disappointed with this installment of the Covenant series, but you will be begging for the next book as soon as you finish this one. It's just that good.Alex's character growth was amazing to me. She started trying to think instead of just running head first into a bunch of stupid, and she also became more selfless. A lot of that was Aiden's influence. He kept an eye on her quite a bit, but she made some good decisions for herself. She spent a lot of this novel extremely terrified of her Awakening, and I can't blame her. She still tried to do what was best for everyone, though. The relationships between Aiden and Alex and Seth and Alex got a lot more complicated in this novel. I have also switched from team Seth to team Aiden. I'm not going to tell you why, but Aiden really won me over this time. I also like Marcus better now that I got to see a little more of his personality. The plot was amazingly captivating, and action and suspense were nonstop. I could not have put this book down, even if I'd wanted to! So many people are out to get Alex that it's impossible to tell who is on her side and who wants her dead. Many of the characters aren't who we thought they were, and there are a lot of surprises. There are also a lot of attempts on Alex's life. Additionally, the pacing was perfect. All of that makes for a quick and enthralling read. My only complaint with this book is that it ends on a cliffhanger. I want the next installment now, haha. I'm not very patient, so the wait is already killing me. I'm in for a rough road before Apollyon is released. Overall, I'd recommend this book (and series) to anyone. Jennifer L. Armentrout is one of my favorite authors, and Deity does not disappoint. I can't wait to see what happens next.

I thank the day i discovered Jennifer L Armentrout's books. Every book in the Covenant series has been fast paced, full of action, danger and suspense and has had me glued to the pages from the first paragraph. DEITY is a huge game changer for the series as truths come out and when Alex's 18th birthday hits nobody is safe. The situations and emotions throughout the book will leave you feeling like you've been hit by a truck. The series gets better and better with each book.I really feel I would give away spoilers if I say to much so I will keep this review with some simple thoughts. Alex has absolutely zero downtime. She is constantly under scrutiny and is constantly in trouble with the higher ups. Aiden is still in the front of her mind along the way as she tries to give Seth a chance. I have really enjoyed all of the characters in the series so far. DEITY brings everyone back together as they fight towards a common goal and try to figure out what they will do after everything they know implodes. The ending, holy crud. The suspense is killer and the danger is at an all time high. The last chapter will have you screaming at Jennifer to hurry up with APOLLYON because you will be dying to know what happens next. I LOVE this series and I have no doubt that you will too.

If I had any reservations with considering not continuing with this series, they were absolutely blown out of the water with "Deity". I mean, wow. I literally could not put this book down. It's as if Armentrout is a whole new author with this book in the series, and even though it still relies quite a bit on the Aiden/Seth/Alex love triangle, this book is truly Alex's story, and is absolutely stunning. Feeling a little lost after "Pure"? Hang in there. "Deity" makes it all better.Seriously, I'm not kidding when I say that this feels like an entirely new book when I read it. The world has expanded even more with more history on the Apollyon, rich with a new mythology that builds upon old Greek mythology by Armentrout, as well as a lot of politics from the pure bloods and the half-bloods. As this book focuses the most on the looming deadline for Alex's birthday (and thus, awakening as the second Apollyon), we get a lot more on the other half-bloods around her, as well as more at the Covenant academy and more on other minor characters that we've seen or heard from, but we hear from the most in this book. Armentrout has shrunk the world of the Covenant down to Alex and her awakening and this book and in terms of worldbuilding, it really, really worked. Everything got very real, very quick, and it was just riveting. As for Alex herself, she grows by leaps and bounds as a character and in terms of personal character arcs for everyone in this book, there's real, significant progress with everyone in this book in terms of development, but Alex's development takes the case. She finally starts waking up to her situation and how awful it just might be if she becomes, basically, what amounts to Seth's extra battery. There's a lot of seduction and lies from Seth, and a lot of hurting feels between her and Aiden, so even though I'm still not a huge fan of the love triangle in this series? Armentrout finally put it to good, solid work in this book. One thing that makes a great book is an author not afraid to torture or kill her darlings, and Armentrout does a hell of a lot of that in this particular installment in the series. I had feelings I didn't even know were lurking after I finished the final page (another cliffhanger, but massive enough to keep me salivating for "Apollyon"). Many of the minor characters we've seen in prior books transition to the main cast in this book more or less seamlessly, all more or less in response to Alex fighting for her life (and on and off, fighting against her awakening). That was so gratifying to read, and it was something I wish "Pure" had had. This book's pace is incredibly fast, but not so much that you can't keep up. There's a lot of mystery still shrouding the Apollyon legend/threat, and a lot to be uncovered by Alex in order for her to make her decision. There's a clock ticking for Alex, both internally (with her body starting to make her ready for her transformation) and externally (with the threat of death by assassination), and that pressure made for some really great tension with Alex's internal development and her interaction with the rest of the characters.Basically? Alex, you've come a long way, baby. What was also awesome? Alex having a pretty frank talk with herself (and her friends) about the love triangle in terms of asking herself - in terms of what I'm feeling, is it love (Aiden)? Or lust (Seth)? She finally gets honest about the fact that she might be being used, and that truth gets repeatedly pounded into the skull of the reader. Usually I'm not for that method of writing, but it worked really well as the tension upped more and more with each repetition of that question. In terms of the cliffhanger - yep, there is one, and it's serious business. And it actually made me tear up because it was such a surprise (but that's all I'll say about it, as anything more would be spoilery). Usually I really am not into cliffhangers like this in series (because usually it feels like a cheap way out), but I'd say in this series, it was direly needed. And Armentrout delivers on this, and on so many other levels as well.Final verdict? If you're a fan of the series, you simply must continue with Alex, Aiden, Seth, and the rest. If you're new to the series, you might be pretty lost, so I suggest you start book one, "Half-Blood", before you get to this third book in the series. "Deity" is out now from Spencer Hill Press in North America, so what are you waiting for? This one definitely deserves a place on my best of 2012 list, so go ahead and check it out. It definitely deserves the read.(posted to goodreads, shelfari, and birthofanewwitch.wordpress.com)

Deity was absolutely amazing! As much as I love the covenant series, my one gripe has always been that it is very similar to Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series. I am beyond thrilled to say that Deity is a definite break from the overwhelming similarities in the two series. Yes, we still have the daimon/strigoi parallel, as well as the comparable love stories, but aside from that we are in a different world completely! Oh. My. Gods. What an exciting world Armentrout introduces us to! Remember all of those Appolyon mysteries from Pure? Well, we are starting to get answers to them—and I am loving every second of it. Armentrout continues on with her unique take on Greek mythology and we even get to see some of the Gods and their realms. The Gods are my favorite part because every author gives them a different personality and it’s a lot of fun to see how they differ. The love triangle is, of course, one of the major draws to this series. The triangle played much less of a role in this novel, and it appears that Alex has made a choice—however, there is a lot of room for this to change, so we will have to see how this plays out in the later novels. Filled with action and adventure, Armentrout delivers another kickass novel for us to devour. Perfect for fans of both Greek Mythology and romance, Deity will enrapture the reader with its world building, romance, and to-die-for characters. This series is utterly captivating, and I cannot wait for more!

There isn't much to say besides wow. And I loved it. Alex continues to kick butt and take names, Aiden is hot as ever and we get to see a whole new level with him... Seth is mysterious and dangerous as ever, and there are plot twists that I never expected. If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend it. It is among my favorites, because of the characters, the love story and the action behind the scenes. This is no filler book. There is action, character development, love and new snags to the plan on every page. Alex kept me cheering for her, snickering at her mouth and wishing I had her skills every other page. I love being in her head, and getting to feel like I have that kind of wit, energy and passion if only for the hours where I am transported into her world. I also loved being able to see a more soft side of Alex and she wrestles with choices she must make, and possible ways that the future could play out with responsibility on her shoulders. I love the secondary characters as well... they have depth and they add something. Lea with her emotions, Olivia with her pain and confusion over what to feel towards Alex, Marcus and wondering about his motivations, and Leon... yeah, well there is a huge story there too. I love the scenes with Deacon as well. He makes me laugh and I am so glad for his friendship with Alex, he adds just the right thing to the scenes that he is in. And oh, how I miss Caleb. We get a small dose of him in ways I didn't expect in this one, but he was such a great friend and character. The ending is amazing, leaving me wanting more. Jennifer, be glad I don't know your address, or I might have to ninja Apollyon from your computer, lol. Great book, awesome series, amazing author.

I love this series! It's simply outstanding and sooo good! What I enjoyed most about this book is the plot. The reader is placed back into the island so smoothly. I stepped into this book as if I never left and could not get enough. The plot paced on perfectly, detailing events from the past and well as what is going on now in the present. Alexandria has grown so much and is not quite the same. She is much wiser in her decisions and knows that something is up. And boy is she right. The love interest didn't quite move in the book as much as I wanted it do. Yes, there was some new developments but nothing really concrete. There is so much going on in the world that, there isn't much time for it. I did however, enjoyed what the author gave me. For me, that is enough..for now. LOL. Also, with the new developments and the ending of the book I fell so wound up. I need the next book ASAP! take my words when I say, "Prepare to be amazed!"There are other characters in the book that are beginning to play bigger parts. I like how nicely everything is being brought back together. Things from the first book are being in tied in nicely. So if you remember any foretellings they are coming to pass. BEWARE!Deity is such a fantastic book that I think I will go and re-read it again. It amazed me and stunned me. It's left me speechless, yet filled me with so many questions. It's just one of those books that is soo good, you have no idea what do with yourself after it finish.Deity is an supreme story! Pulsing with action, laced with dark, violent secrets, coming out left and right, I could not put this book down. It's intoxicating yet amazing. With taunting thrills and surprises around every corner, Deity is excellent!

The BEST Covenant book in the series!!!With the furies on the loose and the gods ready to strike Alexa must stay alive until her eighteenth birthday and so far this may be the hardest task for her yet. With everyone seemingly against her Alexa must choose wisely with who she trusts and let's in her circle. Even though the odds are stacked against her Alex will soon find her destiny and decisions will be made by her or others who want to use her power in their favor. But Most of all will Alexa lay down and let people make decisions for her or will she fight in what is truly her's and what she knows is right? You will find out in November!!You guys are not going to believe the level of outrageous this book delivers! It is beyond words and I dont even know how to describe them right now. I have a difficult time getting through this book because every time something would happen I would have to take a 15 to 20 minute break to let it all settle in! Time's 20 minutes x 20 breaks and you get the idea...yes it was that many times! There is a lot of information that will knock your socks off in only 323 pages and JLA did a superb job in getting everything you needed to get ready for Appollyon the last and final installment of the Covenant series!!This book is absolutely fantastic and JLA is my all time favorite Author and she is a brilliant writer and story teller as well. I am so happy that I got to read this as a ARC and I cant wait for the world to read it in November so I can Gush and Praise this book! All that is left for me to say now is ..."You better get ready!' You are going to LOVE LOVE this book and be prepared for a WoW and Shock factor because it has the steamy romance we've been dying for ,some Kick ass fighting scenes, and some lefts that you didnt see coming aboiut all of the characters! I swear all the character evovled in this one book and it was AWESOME!!!

My first reaction after finishing Deity: What the hell just happened?I’ve never read a book that screwed with my emotions as much as Deity.I don’t even know where to begin without spoiling anything, because there is so much that happens in Deity. So. Much.In Pure, we learn about Alex being the second Apollyon. We also learn that she is considered a threat and that the Furies want her dead. Well, I thought shiznit (trying to keep it PG here) went down in Pure…but I was wrong. Deity takes it to a whole other level.Deity is built upon secrets. Everyone has one - some of which can be harmful to others. Alex has grown a lot since the beginning of the series. She’s always been a tough heroine, but she’s finally beginning to see that knee-jerk reactions can be problematic. She’s killed her mother. She’s lost her best friend. And she has found out that she is the second Apollyon; and that by fate, she is destined to be one with Seth. Enough for any teenager to have to deal with, right? Nope. Alex’s life gets turned upside down in Deity. She’s running off of hope that she can stop the First from becoming the God Killer. But hope isn’t enough.Honestly, this is a hard book to review because I really can’t justify spoiling the story. No matter how much I may want to talk about all the feelings I have right now. My Aiden fangirl is happy, or she was happy until, you know…but my Seth fangirl? My heart is hurting. As someone who isn’t really a fan of love triangles (something I’ve stated before), I found myself worried when I started Pure last year. But then when I finished Pure, and saw where Armentrout was taking the story, I found that I didn’t mind the love triangle. In fact, going into Deity, I was actually a fan of both boys. But then my Seth fangirl died out about halfway in – it’s hard not to like Seth, until you reach the mid point in Deity. That is all I’m saying on that one. That. Is. All.Deity made me want to throw my book across the room numerous times, and to me, that just shows how great Armentrout is at her craft. Because when a reader is that invested in characters from a book, the author has clearly done something right.Oh, and that ending? I need the next book pronto!
