About this audiobook

In Under the Influence, the story centered around Dalton Greer's internal struggle to keep the road he chose in order to escape his abusive childhood a secret from the girl he loved, Spencer Locke. Along the way, we also met Cassie, her quirky best friend, who was responsible for much of the comic relief throughout the book.

But things aren't always as they appear, and Cassie has been hiding her own secrets. Secrets she is ready to share with you. Secrets that won't be easy to write, and probably even harder to hear, but ones which must be revealed in order for her to heal from her own tortured past and move forward into the arms of the man she loves.Contains mature themes.

Everyone has secrets. Memories can be devastating and will hinder relationships. Individuals will try all sorts of things to escape the nightmares. Cassie story is one such incident. The cracks in the walls occur as Grady Bennett enters her life upsetting the fragile balance between just surviving and going under. A criminal, police, best friends, and a quest for the truth add interesting twists to this plot. The author did a fine job illustrating how difficult it is to deal with trauma and why substance abuse hides rather heals.

If I am being totally honest, I more skimmed this book than actually read it. I wanted to finish the series, but I was really struggling because I just couldn't like them. Plus, this one was easy to skim as it was from the perspective of the second book's best friend and much of the book overlapped.I really don't like giving bad reviews, but this was not my cup of tea in the slightest. The first two books at least had some heart-wrenching moments but this one was just, well, skimmable. As I said with the other two, the writing was repetitive and the characters were ripped and had flawless appearances. But if you liked the "romance" in Twilight, you will probably like these.

A book of self-discovery. I received three books of the series, and believe I should have started at the beginning. I found this book to be a bit dark, but I think it's supposed to be. Maybe I'm too old for such books. Received through LT for my honest review.

I know it was not a coincidence that I won this book on Library Thing. It spoke to me in ways even I don't understand. Her story is my story. I couldn't put it down. The insight into the mind of an abused child cannot be fathomed. Her story of Cassie's determination to overcome her fears and finally accept that she is a lovable person is a good read for anyone, but especially for anyone who has suffered from childhood abuse. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.
