About this audiobook
World-famous (and now retired) photographer Jenvieve Adams has a debt to repay-and a soft spot for modern witches who have lost their way. Or so she thinks, until they actually show up.
Jennie is the newest guide for WitchLight, and her first two students are about to arrive. One is an obsessive psychologist with hidden layers under her repressed exterior. The other is a grown-up juvenile delinquent with a passion for words and a kick-ass biscuit recipe. Can Jennie help unlock their hearts?

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Debora has done it again. This book is another installment in a wonderful world filled with interesting, relatable characters. Everytime I get a copy of a new book in the Modern Witch world, I can't put it down until I've finished. Witches on Parole was no exception. The two main new additions to the cast of characters, Elsie and Lizard are just as faceted and interesting as each of the characters that I've fallen in love with in previous books. They find their way into the world created in Debora's previous books in search of self-discovery and mentorship (whether voluntarily or by necessity). The characters that I came to know and love previously (Lauren, Jenny, Nat, Jamie, and others) find themselves tasked with helping both of these amazing women find the path they've been searching for. This leads to some tearful moments, some hilarious moments, and some definite soul searching. The story is filled with emotional pulls, magic, and self-discovery that feels more real with every page turn. Every character feels fully developed and as real as if I'd met them down the street. If you're looking for a story with strong female leads, adorable witchlings, and a plot that will make you yearn for more when you come to the end, this is definitely a book you should pick up!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Some of you may remember my book reviews of A Modern Witch and A Hidden Witch, so I was please to be given the chance to read and review the author’s newest book Witches on Parole: Unlocked (A Modern Witch trilogy, book 1)Those who have read Geary’s other books will be please to find some of the same characters in this fisrt book of the new spin-off series. The modern witchy themes are present, as is Geary’s flair for crafting page-turning, first-rate books. In Witches on Parole we meet two new witched in need of some guidance. Enter the Witchlight program. Part community service for the magically inclined and part service organization, Witchight and it’s members offer more than witchly guidance and a fresh start. They offer the chance to become part of the family, so to speak. I don’t want to give to many details away, but I’ll just say that Geary is a Fab writer with a “gift” of her own. She pens creative, engaging books that drawn a reader in while giving us characters that start to feel like family. And now I’m hooked on this series as well as the original Modern Witch series.Gee, my reading list seems to be growing by leaps and bounds lately!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Another loving book where the characters reach out to each other in pure love. Misfits are kindly brought along by extremely understanding role models and contrasting characters are played off each other with each benefiting from the unique understanding and insight that the other possesses. Deborah has a unique ability to describe extremely close families in a manner where it appears that the loving interrelations are the most natural state for witches and humans. It makes you want to reach out and find a witch community to associate with!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Another amazing book by Debora Geary! I love the Modern Witch series and this book did not disappoint. I look forward to reading the next installment.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Ms. Geary has done it again. Another great story that comes alive with wonderful characters. The writing style makes it easy see this book vividly in my mind. Can't wait for the next one.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Witches on Parole: Unlocked is another AMAZING book by the very talented Debora Geary. It is a spin off of her Modern Witch series, with some of our very favorite witches making an appearance. Lizard and Elsie could not be more different, it seems like the only thing they do have in common is that they are both witches. Both women have turned to WitchLight for very different reasons, Lizard to stay out of jail and Elsie to help her firm up her ethical boundaries when it comes to her clients. Jennie is assigned to mentor both of the women, and sees a lot of herself in Lizard but has a very difficult times relating to Elsie. Jennie enlists the help of those near and dear to her to help both Lizard and Elsie break out of the chains that are holding them into the destructive parts of their lives. I feel like I can't summarize anymore because I really just want you to read the book (and you don't have to read the Modern Witch series in order to understand this, but you should read them anyway, because they are fantastic). As always, the character are lovable and relate-able and I could not put this down. A must read in this girls opinion.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Witches on Parole is another of Debora Geary's great books about the witch community. This time, it's about an organization called Witchlight which helps witches find their way, perhaps out of legal trouble or perhaps just to find their way in life. It's not directly about the characters and witch families we've already met in prior books but several of those characters to make appearances. The book tells the stories of two witches, one a younger woman, Lizard, and one a woman in her 30s, Elsie, who are polar opposites. Lizard is Goth/punk, rebellious and a bit anti social. She has been in and out of trouble and joining Witchlight is a condition of her parole. Elsie is a psychologist herself but who finds she can't do her job properly anymore. She joins Witchlight thinking it might be a way of helping the community. She's very conservative, very orderly and rigid. Both women are defensive and their self confidence is low. Both women need help to break down those barriers and find out who they really are and what they can really do with their lives. Jennie is the witch that is assigned to guide them. Jennie was a minor character from the first book, and is a photographer. We discover that she became interested in photography during her own inauguration into Witchlight. Her mentor, Melvin, gave her a camera as a way of giving her a focus. (pun intended!) Now it's Jennie's turn to be a mentor to these very different women and she calls on some of the characters we've met in previous books to help, including Jamie and his non-witch wife, Lauren the real estate agent, and of course, Aervyn the four year old witchling. Reading about the witching community that Debora has created always makes me want to be one too! The witches are so supportive and they all seem to have so much fun! I look forward to each and every book that furthers their adventures!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5By now I'm sure you know from my reviews that I love Debora Geary's books. "Witches on Parole: Unlocked" kept me spellbound until the end. It was nice to see characters from the Modern Witch series interacting with new characters and new situations, revealing other aspects of their personalities and lives as they attempt to help two witches live up to their potential. How many of us longed to be Samantha of Bewitched? (Okay, I know I'm dating myself here ) It looked marvelous to be able to fix things with the twitch of a nose and a loving heart. Debora Geary's Modern Witches can't fix everything with a twitchy nose (although being able to teleport cookies and ice cream comes close in my universe). These witches do have loving hearts though and that leads to some tearful moments as well as some hilarious ones. Joining the Modern Witches are Lizard and Elsie, each damaged in her own way, each seeking a way into themselves, into the persons they truly are when the layers of hurt are peeled away. Debora writes with a voice that is humorous and extraordinarily loving. I suspect that she feels deeply for each of her characters and their universe because she has made me care deeply for each and every one of them too. (I confess that four-year-old Aervyn holds a special place in my heart though!) Each book rings true and by the end of "Witches on Parole: Unlocked" both Lizard and Elsie are, like all the rest, women you would love to curl up and chat with while eating cookies or knitting or both. This book has earned a place among my "comfort" items: strawberry shortcake ice cream, Irish cream coffee, a massively soft recliner, and all of Debora Geary's books.
