Chencia C. Higgins

Chencia C. Higgins is just a girl from Texas who has made it her mission to create stories in which sassy, southern Black women are loved out loud. In 2019, she won a Romance Slam Jam Emma Award for her debut paranormal romance Janine: His True Alpha. When she isn't hunkered down in her writing cave, she can be found with her nose in a book, saving recipes on Pinterest for things she’ll never make, and dreaming about traveling even further south for the winter.

This book was so great. It was funny, had tough heartfelt moments that made me cry and moments that made my heart flutter. It kept a great pace and kept me interested throughout the whole story. Also love how it it's plot is of new age, I mean how much more relevant to current time can you be with a love reality show?! Top tier in Black Lesbian Literature.

PHENOMENAL OH MY GOODNESS. SWEET, TENDER, SEXY.

The voice actor?? The trust?? The relationships? The characters?? So wonderful. It’s like being wrapped in a sapphic hug. The dialogue is snappy and makes characterizations even better. And the second to last chapter!!!!! My friend has been gushing about it for years and I FINALLY got around to reading it. Don’t delay!

So cute. Very corny and it’s not the most complex or deep writing but it’s a romantic queer story with no pain porn and that’s very cool

For sure one of the best romance books I've read in a while! It perfectly encapsulated the queer experience, especially for people brought up in a conservative religious environment. Despite this, it is filled with tenderness and longing, and most of all love. Easily a five star book!
