About this audiobook

I am so dead... Now, was I supposed to go left or right at the Light? Seventeen-year-old Amber Borden has a lousy sense of direction—so lousy that she takes a wrong turn when returning from her near-death experience. She ends up in the body of the most popular girl in school, who has just tried to commit suicide. Can a girl who can't even navigate the halls of Halsey High discover the secrets of her new identity and find her way back to her own life? From the author of THE SEER Series.

Editor's Note

Darkly humorous…

After an unpleasant encounter with a mail truck, 17-year-old Amber Borden is having a lousy day, one that sends her into the afterlife. It’s not her time, however, so the directionally-challenged teen is sent back to the land of the living — only she takes a wrong turn into the body of one of the most popular girls in school who has just attempted suicide. Can she find her way back? A darkly humorous coming-of-age YA novel that demonstrates how little we know about those around us.

Author

Linda Joy Singleton

With plots involving twins, cheerleaders, ghosts, psychics and clones, Linda Joy Singleton has published over 25 midgrade and YA books. When she's not writing, she enjoys life in the country with a barnyard of animals including horses, cats, dogs and pigs. She especially loves to hear from readers and speaking at schools and libraries. She collects vintage series books like Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden and Judy Bolton. When Linda is asked why she'd rather write for kids than adults, she says, "I love seeing the world through the heart of a child, where magic is real and every day begins a new adventure. I hope to inspire them to reach for their dreams. Writing for kids is a gift, a responsibility, and an honor."

Clunky writing; forced, unrealistic dialog; weak plot; poor plot progression; ridiculously obvious plot holes; basic, boring, surface-level characters; awful mental health representation (amber literally refers to a psych hospital as a “place full of crazies…”, clunky, badly-established supernatural world; stereotypical, basic YA romance; nonsensical ending - not the one where it’s unexpected but kinda cool… no the kind that literally makes no sense and is purposely crammed in with no rhyme or reason so the author gets a second book out of this ridiculousness. Let’s hope book two is better. Will not be reading to find out like. Oh and the narrater was awful - every conversation between characters was a screaming contest.

It was a good story up until the end. After all that she was stuck as someone else. Maybe there will be a 2nd book. I would have liked to see how things played out with Leah’s family when she went back. And I would like to have seen Amber get to enjoy her life a little bit after learning what she truly had going for her. The story was good. It pushes the point that you never truly know what someone else is dealing with. No matter how much they seem to have or how popular or put together they seem to be. So you should always choose kindness.

Juvenile and ridiculous but the story idea had merit. Way too many cliches and stereotypes. I probably won't be seeking out the rest of the series.

Juvenile fiction, good ideas, the mai character is incredibly dumb, so the listener always thinks: “ don’t do it!” But then she does. That’s on way to create tension in the listener.

This was a great idea for a story. For the most part is clean. The villains are pretty bad and scary so it’s better for older teens.

I really liked the idea the story created but that was about all I liked. Other than the whiney tone, the narrator does a great job.

BELOW IS KIND OF SPOILERS BUT NO DETAIL. REALLY IT'S JUST MY OPINIONS ON THE CHARACTERS PERSONALITY.

I found it frustrating enough that she makes stupid choices but what I really don't like is that the main character is so thoughtless and self-centred throughout most of the book. Obviously, you would really miss your parents and siblings but she just doesn't consider other people's feelings and she doesn't make the most of the second chance she was given and the story itself is contradictory in that it describes her personality before the accident as being a really thoughtful, kind person but afterwards she's extremely selfish and treats everyone like crap.
