About this audiobook

The massive labyrinth was built to protect Zadie Kalvers' isolated desert town. Unfortunately, living in the maze's shadow makes her feel anything but safe. Even without its enchanted deathtraps and illusions, a notorious killer named Dex lurks in its corridors, terrorizing anyone in his path.

But when Zadie's best friend vanishes into the labyrinth-and everyone mysteriously forgets he exists- completing the maze becomes her only hope of saving him. In desperation, Zadie bribes the only person who knows the safe path through-Dex-into forming a tenuous alliance.

Navigating a deadly garden, a lethal blood-filled hourglass, and other traps-with an untrustworthy murderer for her guide-Zadie's one wrong step from certain death. But with time running out before her friend (and secret crush) is lost forever, Zadie must reach the exit and find him. If Dex and the labyrinth don't kill her first.

Editor's Note

For fans of ‘The Maze Runner’…

Zadie Kalvers lives in Trinnea, a city surrounded by a labyrinth meant to protect its residents from the horrors of an outside world devastated by climate change. Most residents of Trinnea have special powers, but Zadie notably doesn’t; still, she’s willing to brave the horrors of the labyrinth to save Landon Everhart. This is a dystopian adventure for fans of “The Maze Runner.”

The book was good, but I hope there is a sequel, as the ending left things hanging.

The book was good, the ending was a surprise but a cliffhanger. Really need a sequel.

Definitely unique, with a great twist ending. Will leave you hanging, wishing it was a series!

I will firstly say, the story is creative and unique enough, which is refreshing. I enjoyed and appreciate the book and the author! I must also say a few words about the narration—it is appalling. The narrator made listening to this book unbearable. Had I not been intentionally listening to the author’s written words, I’m certain I’d have never been able to experience this sweet little gem of a world that is unfortunately suffocated by the narrator’s inability to read and convey it appropriately. Horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible.

The premise of the story is good and the narrator is excellent, but there are some serious issues. The FMC is incredibly naive for half the book. She does things that she even admits to herself are probably a bad idea over and over again until you get towards the end. Dex is the best character in the book imo and I was really invested in his story. The biggest problem is that it ends on a major cliffhanger and almost 5 years later there are no sequels so your left high and dry. It was a good read but it lost two stars because it leaves you with so many questions and the author won't be finishing the series.

I could not finish this audiobook- the narrator is AWFUL. Sounds like a high school student reading aloud in English class.

AMAZING fell in love need a sequel like yesterday! Reminded me of the same type of feel like the hunger games or the maze runner, but had a whole different story and an amazing twist! The characters were also much deeper and interesting to me, some possible ptsd and a hard upbringing that strengthens the characters. Also one of the characters has a huge internal battle going on and it is amazing to see the character growth play out. Could not recommend this book more literally fell in love and can’t wait to see the next book! I really never ever leave reviews (and I read A LOT of books) I think this is my first actual review so that’s how you know it was really good!!

The Red Labyrinth is a bit different spin on a common premise, dystopian maze stories. The heroine, Zadie, is a blank, meaning she was born with no skills. In a society where skills are tantamount to social class rankings, she is a ridiculed outcast nothing. Conversely, her best friend, Landon, has what seems like innumerable skills. There sits a red labyrinth in their town. Blanks go in and don't come back. No one survives this monstrosity. Occasionally, Landon must go in and save someone, but Landon is skilled enough to do it. On the other side, sits a castle where allegedly their leader resides. One day, Zadie wakes up and people are nice to her. The townspeople also don't remember Landon. She knows the answers are on the other side of the labyrinth. So, in she goes. She encounters twists and turns and a surprise ending. Zadie is a sympathetic character. To be treated like garbage for something she has no control of, well, it sucks. She doesn't really show her strength and intelligence until she enters the labyrinth. She gains confidence and starts to realize she is not worthless. The world building is great. It's an intriguing place full of mystery. The writing is good and the story unfolds at a good pace. Dystopian fans will enjoy this book. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
