About this audiobook

Miss Lucinda Parnell is out of money. A dismal failure at the Marriage Mart, she’d just as soon leave Society far behind. Desperate to earn funds to retire with her grandmother to the country, Lucy disguises herself as a man to gamble in London’s hells. But the Earl of Dartford, an Untouchable she never imagined speaking to let alone spending time with, is onto her in a trice. When he insists on acting as her protector, Lucy fears her chance to remain an independent woman is destined to go up in flames.

After losing his entire family, Andrew Wentworth, Earl of Dartford built a wall to keep attachments at bay. He believed he could keep Miss Parnell safe without compromising his defenses, but she’s exciting and irresistible. Their deepening relationship makes him even more determined to push her away. Nothing will stop him from trying to avoid reliving the anguish of loss. Love is the one risk he doesn’t have the heart to dare.

Author

Darcy Burke

Darcy Burke is the USA Today bestselling author of hot, action-packed historical and sexy, emotional, contemporary romance. Darcy wrote her first book at age eleven, a happily-ever-after about a swan addicted to magic and the female swan that loved him, with exceedingly poor illustrations. A native Oregonian, Darcy lives on the edge of wine country with her guitar-strumming husband, their two hilarious kids who seem to have inherited the writing gene, and three Bengal cats. In her “spare” time, Darcy is a serial volunteer enrolled in a twelve-step program where one learns to say “no,” but she keeps having to start over. She’s also a fair-weather runner, and her happy places are Disneyland and Labor Day weekend at the Gorge.

Oh, what a refreshing historical romance author... 2nd book so far & I loved that there's zero or minimal angst, no idiotic misunderstandings & the dithering about getting married or not is also minimal... bravo!

I also LOVED the narrator, she's got a beautiful voice regardless, but she's able to use different voices & best of all, she does not give the heroine a childish voice, which 5+ starts from me!

I liked the storyline, I love that from the get-go, the hero doesn't seem at all fazed by her wearing men's clothing & that she enjoys "male pursuits", he not only helps her, he includes her in all the activities, introduces Smithy to all his friends & never once comes across as condescending or misogynistic in any way... we all need an Andrew in our lives :)

Also, he's not homophobic... honestly, I'm really loving this author!

Lucy is a fantastic heroine, I really liked her & her spunk... she's vivacious, courageous & a woman who goes after what she wants...

I loved their interactions from the get-go, their sniping was cute & did make me smile... so all in all, I loved this book & onto the next one I go :)

This was an enjoyable read. The stall on the HEE got a little old but strong likable heroine and I liked the hero. He was pretty awful to heroine a couple times but we almost understand why and the h understands him. He also accepts her daring and wearing mens clothes etc. so I generally liked him. H was fun and likable. I recommend

The narrator was very good. Pity I can't continue the series as for some reason it will not available till the 29.7
