About this audiobook

Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg, New York Times bestselling authors of The Heist, return in this action-packed, exciting adventure featuring master con artist Nicolas Fox and die-hard FBI agent Kate O'Hare. And this time around, things go from hot to nuclear when government secrets are on the line.

Internationally renowned thief and con artist Nicolas Fox is famous for running elaborate and daring scams. His greatest con of all: convincing the FBI to team him up with the only person who has ever caught him, Special Agent Kate O'Hare. Together they'll go undercover to swindle and catch the world's most wanted - and untouchable - criminals.

Their newest target is Carter Grove, a former White House chief of staff and the ruthless leader of a private security agency. Grove has stolen a rare Chinese artefact from the Smithsonian, a crime that will torpedo U.S. relations with China if it ever becomes public. Nick and Kate must work under the radar - and against the clock - to devise a plan to steal the piece back. Confronting Grove's elite assassins, Nick and Kate rely on the skills of their ragtag crew, including a flamboyant actor, a Geek Squad techie, and a band of AARP-card-carrying mercenaries led by none other than Kate's dad.

A daring heist and a deadly chase lead Nick and Kate from Washington, D.C., to Shanghai, from the highlands of Scotland to the underbelly of Montreal. But it'll take more than death threats, trained henchmen, sleepless nights, and the fate of a dynasty's priceless heirloom to outsmart Fox and O'Hare.

All these novels are a bit cheesy and easy-reading, with lots of silly but fun dialogue and capers. This book is the second in the Kate O'Hare (FBI agent) and Nick Fox (international thief) series. Definitely enjoyable -- good beach reading -- but nothing that will make you think.

The Chase by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg is an excellent adventure. It takes place partly in Los Angeles, New York, Washington D.C., Florida, Canada, China, etc. From the beginning to the end of the book the chase is on both of the museum artifacts and the FBI agent O'Hare and international thieve Fox. It takes place today. The characters are all believable, and settings described with enough description that one can envision the scenes as the story progresses. This book has earned five stars and is highly recommended.

Another delightful romp in the Fox and O'Hare series! Full of humor and heists and a wee bit of playful romance between con artist extraordinaire, Nick, and FBI agent, Kate. Nick and Kate and most of the old gang of supporting characters from book #1 working together again to take down an even bigger FBI threat.

THE CHASE was an entertaining heist story with many quirky side characters. The main characters are FBI Agent Kate O'Hare and Number Ten on the FBI's most wanted list Nicholas Fox. Kate finally captured Nick after a long chase and now he is working undercover along with Kate for the FBI. Their current assignment is to break into the Smithsonian and steal a forged artifact that is supposed to be turned back to the Chinese who were the original owners. Of course, that the artifact is a forgery is a secret that would embarrass the US if it were revealed.Kate and Nick have to recover the original from a former Chief of Staff who now runs the premier mercenary organization for black ops in the world. He has quite a collection of stolen art. They need to bread into his very posh and very technologically current new mansion, find the artifact, and get away with it. Naturally, there is a time crunch...I loved the dialog and the sexual tension between Nick and Kate. I loved the fast pace of the story. I loved the quirky side characters who provided quite a bit of humor in the story.

A fun read typical of Janet Evanovich. This is the second book on this series and I enjoyed it more than the first one. Kate O'Hare(FBI agent) and Nick Fox (con artist working with the FBI) are on a case to steal back a bronze rooster to be returned to China. The original has been stolen years earlier and replaced by a fake so no one knew that the robbery had occurred. Lots of illegal activity, quick thinking, deadly weapons and an undercurrent of lust throughout the book, but of course, everything turns out in the end. If you are a fan of Evanovich, you will enjoy this book.

Fun fast read. 2nd in the Fox and O'Hare series. At the start Nick and Kate are trying to retrieve an ancient Chinese zodiac rooster that was stolen from the Smithsonian. It ends up that the rooster is now in the hands of a former white house chief of staff. Not only does he have the rooster but a number of other noteworthy stolen art pieces. After the successful retrieval of the rooster they set their sites on getting the rest of the stolen loot back to their rightful owners as well.

This was the romantic cop meets con-artist story I didn't realize I was missing until I read it. I love how they constantly try to one-up each other, and I really love all the secondary characters. It reminds me of Vicky Bliss and John Smythe, one of my favorite couples. (Provided by publisher)

Kate O'Hare is an FBI agent with an unusual partner--Nick Fox, international art thief, number ten on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list. Who says the FBI can't be sneaky and underhanded?

Their latest assignment is very delicate, and has a very tight time frame. As a gesture of goodwill, the US government is going to return to China an iconic piece of Chinese art, a sculpture of a rooster, that has been sitting in the Smithsonian for a hundred years. Unfortunately, the rooster was stolen several years ago, and a very good forgery put in its place. Fox and O'Hare have to steal the original back. It's currently in the possession of Carter Grove, chief of staff of the last president, and CEO of BlackRhino, a security/mercenary corporation.

The security on Carter Grove's secret art collection includes, as a final line of defense, Hellfire missiles.

They need to get inside his home, in broad daylight, find the rooster, and get it out. But that turns out to be the least of their challenges, when they see the rest of his collection.

This is a lighthearted romp, bouncing from L.A. to Scotland to Florida to D.C. to China, with humor, good food, and references to some of my favorite old tv shows along the way. It's a great beach read, or take it along on a plane ride and shut out the fact that you're in a pressurized tube in the sky for a few hours.

    Recommended.

There is no con you can pull on a politician, given that they invented them all.

Nic Fox and Kate O'Hare are once again teamed up as the will-they-won't-they odd couple. This time their mission is to recover a stolen artefact of national significance to the Chinese government. They have to steal it from the people who stole it before someone realises it was stol..... You get the idea.

I've read many Lee Goldberg and Janet Evanovich novels and have always found them humorous and entertaining. But The Chase felt like a by-the-numbers follow up to The Heist, a book that established a potentially good series. This was like an episode from a TV crime show like Castle, or Bones, or any of the dozens of those similarly constructed dramedies. And not an episode from the start of the series when it was good, but in those later episodes when they are lining up the ramp over the shark tank.

That isn't to say that The Chase fails to entertain, quite the contrary. This is a fun novel and series, but could feel a bit too formulaic.

I'd have rated it 4 stars had it not been for all the incorrect facts about Montreal, which were really aggravating to me (I live here, i can't turn off my knowledge of the city and pretend I didn't notice the errors - they're glaring.) Otherwise, it was enjoyable enough.

The Chinese wanted the return of an artifact that some of the U.S. knew was a fake, the need to retrieve the original was of the utmost importance. After coming together in an unusual alliance, FBI Special Agent Kate O'Hare along with thief and con artist Nick Fox had to do the job that no one else could do or would ever know about. This couldn't be just any art theft, this was going to be a tricky switch-a-roo that this off the books team would have to pull off. With the help of a few accomplices, including Kates father, Nicks plan just might have a chance of success.Book 2 ... Another great compilation of Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg. Love the personalities that the characters have in this series, love that they continue to come together and each has a set of strengths to lend to the story line. Really enjoy seeing the bond between Jake (father) and Kate grow as well as the thought process that Kate has goes through in order to take the steps needed to pull off the cons. I am liking this series and am so glad I already have access to the next book ... The Job.

The Chase by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg is a highly recommended fast paced thriller that features an abundance of personality conflicts between mismatched cohorts Kate O’Hare and Nicolas Fox.

In The Chase FBI Special Agent and ex-Special forces Kate O’Hare thief and con artist Nicolas Fox are back for the second novel in the Fox and O'Hare series by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg.

Fox is now working undercover with the FBI, specifically O'Hare, to help catch the most wanted criminals or do the messy jobs on the other side of legal that no one else can touch. "[The] FBI had sprung him from jail and was using him to help nail major crooks, even as he’d become one of the Bureau’s Ten Most Wanted criminals. Kate’s job was to be Nick’s handler and protector while, at the same time, leading the FBI’s manhunt for him. Only Jessup and Deputy Director Fletcher Bolton, who picked their targets and ran the secret slush fund that financed Nick’s swindles, knew the truth." Location 204

This outing begins when the Chinese government wants one of their priceless artifacts, a bronze rooster on display at the Smithsonian, returned. The Smithsonian agreed to return it, at the president’s personal request, but there is a problem. Unknown to the Chinese, the president, and the current director of the Smithsonian the bronze rooster on display is a forgery. The real artifact was stolen years ago. Fox and Kate must uncover who has the real rooster, recover it, and switch it with the fake one before the Chinese arrive to transport it back to China. Of course, no job is quite as simple as it seems and the lengths and illegalities Fox and Kate must go through to do the right thing seem to grow exponentially.

Kate and Fox have a chemistry between them. It's that yin and yang, mismatched partner, Moonlighting feeling that helps propel the interpersonal play with the high stakes action. Kate is tough talking with an abundance of snarky humor and revels in eating fast food, such as In and Out's 3x3 burger. In contrast Fox is smooth and refined. He takes great delight in flirting with Kate and trying to get her flustered and upset with him. The action has Fox and Kate traveling near and far at a frantic pace and pulls in several reoccurring characters that are hilarious.

Naturally the writing is superb and up to the task of this new series. There is a healthy amount of humor in the dialogue that should have you laughing aloud at times. The Chase has a light-hearted tone, rather than a dark atmospheric feeling, and is a pleasure to read. While I haven't read The Heist yet (the first novel in the series) it wasn't a problem at all to start the series with this second novel.

Whenever I've been reading a lot of heavy, deep books, fiction and nonfiction, I pause and turn to Janet Evanovich for a guaranteed funny, fast read and good time. As has been noted in a bunch of the reviews here, her Stephanie Plum - the character and the series - is delightful and beloved, but seems to have but a single plot line. Enter Lee Goldberg and one terrific collaboration on a new series, the Fox and O'Hare series with Kate and Nick. Apparently Janet Evanovich works her magic with great characters and wonderful humor and Lee Goldberg knows how to plot 'em! Great combination, resulting in a relaxing and fun good read, whether you do the reading or listen to the audio CD. Lots of fast action and great one-liners, terrific characters and unbelievable situations that make you eager for the next book in the series.

Another entertaining entry in the O'Hare and Fox series. This time the FBI agent and master con artist team up to take down a fine arts thief who is politically-connected and very powerful. They enlist the help of their usual cohorts - Boyd, to act whatever part is necessary for the con, Willie to drive the getaway vehicle (no matter what it is), and Kate's ex-operative dad, Jake - as well as a few new recruits. The cons are fun and Kate and Nick's attraction to each other is kept mostly on the back burner with Kate still disgusted that she could even begin to be attracted to a criminal in the top ten of the FBI's Most Wanted list. Scott Brick reads too slowly and ponderously for me but, if his awards and accolades are any indication, I'm one of the view audiobook listeners who thinks so!

An exciting read jam-packed with action! A thrill ride until the last page!

This book was hard to put down-a roller coaster ride of adrenaline! I felt like I was in the story, or longed to be. It was an easy, fun read! I can't wait for the third book!

The only down-fall for me was the abrupt ending. I thought for sure when I turned the page it would not be over! It was clever though, because now I can't wait for the next adventure to begin.

Janet Evanovich's books NEVER fail to disappoint! She is an author very dear to my heart. I love everything she has ever written.

Thanks to Netgalley.com and Random House Publishing Group - Bantam Dell for access to this title.

This was a super fun read. I loved the quirkiness of all the comments between the two MC. Their strange relationship is a blast to read. I think this would be a great read for those who love Castle, both the show and the books. I found myself thinking of that show quite a bit as I read. My only beef with this is that the ending seemed really abrupt. I actually had to go back and reread the last couple of pages because I thought I had missed something. It still worked out ok, just seemed to wrap up too quickly for me.

I would love to see more. This is such a fun series.

I liked this book better than the first one in the series. Nick and Kate have great chemistry and this time Kate has to save Nick from being murdered by an ex-commando who used to work for the US government but now runs a private security consulting company. He has a secret bunker of stolen art and other valuables that they plan to expose while saving Nick with the help of Jake, Kate's dad, his old pals and the crew they assembled in the first book.

Oh, what evil men there are in the world. Not our Nick Fox. He's Al Bundy, Remington Steele, or The Saint. And just as caught by our FBI Special Agent Kate O'Hare. This is a classic caper story, with several thefts, each one the direct result of the one before and each building toward a satisfying conclusion. Stolen art is recovered and a very bad man, who is also a politician and a federal security contractor, gets defeated, all of which makes for a very happy ever after for the swecond book in this series.Read this book for free on NetGalley

Fast-paced and lots of fun. Great characters and action. This is way better than any of the recent Stephanie Plum novels which I still I like but which are getting stale. This is fresh and a lot of the plot twists are ingenious. The dialog is snappy and there's lots of humor. I hope there is a third book in this series -- The Fox and O'Hare.

When I selected this book to review I had no idea that it was the second book in the Fox and O'Hare series. That being said the book was great as a stand alone but I would definitely love to go back and read book one, The Heist. I'm a huge fan of Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books but never cared for any of her romance books so I was excited that she ventured into the mystery/suspense genre with a little romantic tension thrown in. Kate is the bad ass that I always hoped Stephanie would progress into but never did. The Chase was a quick and entertaining read. The characters were lovable and fun especially Kate's dad and his cronies. It isn't a serious mystery or true suspense but it's a lighter version that works well.I recommend this for all Evanovich fans and anyone who wants a fast, fluffy, easy read.

Nicholas Fox, master criminal, teams up with FBI agent Kate O’Hare to uncover a rare Chinese artifact that is supposed to be returned to China. It’s been in the Smithsonian for years, but nobody knows that the original was stolen years ago and replaced with a copy except for a chosen few. Fox and O’Hare must locate the original, steal it, break into the Smithsonian, and replace the fake before it is returned. They have little time and a lot of planning and many obstacles!I have enjoyed Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, but here teaming up with Lee Goldberg has created an action-packed, hysterically funny and sexually charged thriller that will appeal to both men and women. I enjoy the characters and the outlandish situations because it is all for fun. Would make for a good television series.

I am not a huge fan of multi-volume cops and robbers series, unless of course the books are in the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly. The Bosch series happens to be my standard by which I rate other detective novels. Unfortunately, The Chase does not come close to my "Bosch Standard". There are few unexpected twists and turns, and the amount of story-line devoted to sexual innuendo, flirtation, and the back & forth quips between the two major characters, Kate and Nick, have me wondering whether this should be classified as a Romance novel. The story was somewhat predictable, and lacked depth. I will admit that there were many lines that were quite funny, and the writing was not horrible, This is #2 in a series, and admittedly, I have not read #1 (and alas, I probably never will), I just pictured a cheesy 80s type cop show while reading this. The Chase (even the title lacked vision, as there are many novels with this very same title) is little more than a mildly entertaining piece of fluff to read while waiting at the doctor's office for a scheduled colonoscopy. I give it 2 stars for the few funny and entertaining spots in an otherwise uninspired effort. Picture the A-Team meets Starsky and Hutch.I was given this ebook by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
