ANTARCTIC SKETCHBOOK

BY CLAUDIA MYATT

Suffolk-based artist Claudia Myatt has become something of an institution after her many years of writing and illustrating books, everything from RYA kids’ guides to sailing, to her many illustrations in this and other magazines. She is also one to take off on exotic voyages with a sketchbook and paints in her luggage, and Antarctic Sketchbook is in that category. The gestation of this book starts when Claudia was chosen to be artist in residence by the Friends of Scott Polar Research Institute, a job that meant a five-week voyage aboard the Royal Navy ice patrol ship HMS Protector, a voyage she undertook in late 2021, from the Falkland Islands to South Georgia, the South Sandwich Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula.
