About this audiobook
Everyone thinks their cats are special-but Owen and Hercules have powers that go far beyond an adorable look or an irresistible purr. Along with their owner, librarian Kathleen Paulson, they have an uncanny instinct for solving crimes...
It's been raining cats and dogs in Mayville Heights. The small town's been deluged, and now the local artists' co-op is on the verge of flooding. Kathleen has been up all night helping her friends move their creations to the safety of the upstairs studio.
The artwork survives, but when controversial mask maker Jaeger Merrill is found drowned in the co-op basement, Kathleen questions whether the death was accidental. After she discovers the artist was using an assumed name, she realizes she can't actually assume anything about him. With the help of handsome detective Marcus Gordon-and her cats' extraordinary powers of detection-it's up to Kathleen to unmask a killer.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I found this outing in the series ho-hum. The library setting, the Minnesota small town, the artists' co-op--none of them felt particularly fresh or unique. More emphasis on the interactions between Kathleen and her cats than in the first two books, for what that's worth.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this story - the cats have great personalities and all the humans are pretty likeable too. This book had two plots - an old murder mystery and a current one. Both were interesting and even though I guessed immediately who committed the present-day murder, I enjoyed watching the process and the solution unfold. The old murder's culprit was more a mystery to me and I really liked how it came to a resolution. All in all, the book was fun, entertaining, interesting and not a victim of many cozy cliches. A great series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Kathleen is on a roll: she discovers an old skull and a dead artist within two days of each other. As usual, she gets involved for her friends' sakes. As good as the first one.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5In Kelly’s paranormal cozy mystery novel, the rain in Mayville Heights has reached flooding proportions. The local artist’s co-op is close to flooding and Kathleen has been helping her friends move their artistic creations to the upper levels of the building. The artwork survives but a controversial mask-maker, Jaeger Merrill, doesn’t. He is found drowned in the basement of the co-op and questions linger as to if it was accidental or not. Teaming with detective Marcus Gordon and her extraordinary cats, Kathleen sets out to find the killer.I’ve quickly become a fan of this fun mystery series. This is just one more awesome installment to the A Magical Cats Mystery series and I’m looking forward to the sequel.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A nice entry in the series. Marcus is developing nicely.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was a delightful mystery, paralleling both a current murder investigation with an older one.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It's been over a year since the events in book 1 and Kathleen is still there. (I suspect she'll never leave.) This time she stumbles, literally, onto a dead body, while her friend discovers another corpse. Two murders to solve, but are they related? With this installment, the backgrounds of several characters are fleshed out, which in turn adds to their portrayal. The plot is better than the previous book with the ending being a shock to me. As for the cats, the author seems to have taken more care in writing their parts and including more realistic cat-scenes. They still are mainly used to help explain Kathleen's thinking (she talks them through the developments in the cases) and their magical abilities are downplayed.
