About this audiobook
A decade ago, sculptor Clare Kimball fled Emmitsboro, Maryland, to take the art world by storm. Now she's celebrated as the artist of her generation. But no amount of success can eclipse the nightmares that haunt her-or the memories of her father's suicide. Just as her star is shining brighter than ever, Clare leaves it all behind to face her demons.
Emmitsboro sheriff Cameron Rafferty loved Clare from afar all through high school. Now that she's back, they form a bond that grows stronger each day-fueled by an attraction that's been simmering for years. But Clare's past soon rises up with a vengeance, rocking the town with a sinister murder that is clearly linked to her return. As an investigation gets under way, Clare and Cameron will learn that evil can linger anywhere-even in those you love and trust the most. But it's a discovery that may come too late to save them.…

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I always find satanism to be strangely boring.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Outstanding! I enjoyed every single word! Lots of twists! Shocking! Great book!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The book starts off great. The ending was a little rushed.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I liked the book itself. Nora Roberts is a great writer and I have enjoyed her other books immensely. On my 1992 copy it is categorized as fiction. I am glad it is not under the romance category because I would greatly be disappointed regarding that. To me it is not a romance, it is more of a horror story but since I do like horrors and thrillers, I enjoyed reading the book. It was very graphic but she could branch out to horror if she chose because she did write it very well. I can't say I would recommend it to romance readers but possibly to horror fans or thriller fans.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5good story
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Did enjoy the story. It was a very interesting captivating and adventuring. But to learn that main evil goit away is very sad. She will bring to another town and people where she settled down.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5kept me on the edge of my seat - great book!!!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I used this as a sleeping pill at night. It's very campy, but entertaining enough, I guess. I think I might be desensitized to Satanism nowadays. Too much horror fiction, methinks!

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This Book is a little bit darker than the usual Nora Roberts. While I absolutely love the more mystical side of her writing, I thought this one was a little bit too much. The writing was good as always but the subject was far darker than I expected with circumstances that were more than a bit disturbing. Keep that in mind when picking up this book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A lot of Nora Roberts' books are mostly romance novels and come in threes, but once in a while she writes a stand-alone book that you can really get your teeth into. This is one of them. Yeah, there's a romance in there, but it's well written and the characters don't seem plastic and the love scenes aren't contrived, so it flows pretty well. It's the murder story in this one that I enjoyed. The suspense built slowly and I experienced a few surprises as the evil was slowly revealed. This book took a slightly different path than Roberts usually travels and she handled her plot twists well. Her characterizations were well done and it was a pleasant read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Good, but distrubing because of the occult aspect.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Clare Kimball works as a successful sculptor in New York and her work sometimes echoes nightmares she has about an episode in her childhood. She's drawn back to the small town, Emmitsboro, she grew up in to see about exorcising her past.Cameron Rafferty is the sheriff of Emmitsboro, an old friend of Clares and attracted to her. He's curious about her and her past. There's an undercurrent of evil in this town and the two of them have to fight it.Interesting and I really did like the ambivalence of the end, the evil characters were nicely varied in their evil and you could see some of their motivation, if there is a sequel I'd read it, but it's a good stand-alone.
