- The Return of Tarzan
2
This is the second story in the TARZAN adventure novels. Tarzan has been in England where he has been learning about civilization, his heritage and how he fits into it all as Lord Greystoke. Fate thrusts Tarzan back into the primeval jungle and as he returns to it, his adventures begin with a shipboard altercation. Evil Nickolas Rokoff, the recipient of Tarzan's wrath, swears vengeance and puts a price on Tarzan's head. But Tarzan has greater concerns on his mind as he leaves modern civilization behind to discover a hidden ancient civilization.
- The Beasts of Tarzan
3
This is the third story in the TARZAN adventure series. This venture into the wild kingdom thrusts Jane into the thickest of demoniacal plots as Tarzan’s nemesis, the dark and swarthy Rokoff and his rat-like lieutenant capture her with the intention of wreaking vengeance on Tarzan. But Tarzan assembles an awesome rescue squad; Mugambi, a giant native from the jungle who becomes the devoted follower and protector of Tarzan; Sheeta, a sleek and powerful black panther longing to apply fang and claw to those who would harm Jane; and the entire tribe of Akut, of the great apes, enraged and eager.
- The Son of Tarzan
4
This is the fourth story in the TARZAN adventure novels. This time it is the son of Tarzan, the young Lord Greystoke, who leads us away from the sheltered shores of 19th century England, back to the primitive jungle. Young Lord Greystoke quickly asserts his natural authority in the jungle the way an heir-apparent might ascend a throne but not without a few painful learnings. Accepted by his fellow primates, they rename him, Korak “the killer.” He is as powerful as he is clever. Though his transformation is successful, it is not without bloodshed.
- Tarzans Tiere
3
- Tarzan the Terrible
8
In this novel two months have gone by and Tarzan is continuing to search for Jane. He has tracked her to a hidden valley called Pal-ul-don, which means "Land of Men." In Pal-ul-don Tarzan finds a real Jurassic Park filled with dinosaurs, notably the savage Triceratops-like Gryfs, which unlike their prehistoric counterparts are predatory. Jane is also being held captive in Pal-ul-don where she becomes a pawn in a religious power struggle. Tarzan continues to pursue the rescue of his beloved, going through an extended series of fights and escapes to do so. In the end success seems beyond even his ability to achieve.
- Tarzans Sohn
4
- Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar
5
This is the fifth story in the TARZAN adventure novels. Tarzan’s enemy in this book is a Belgian traitor and an Arab chieftain named, Achmet Zek. Tarzan intends to ‘liberate’ more jewels from the lost city of Opar, unaware that his enemies know of his plan and they intend to liberate the jewels from Tarzan. The running battle becomes so intense that Tarzan is incensed to the point of losing his newly-found, refined demeanor and becomes the beast of old with a terrible ferocity. The apeman once again responds to the wild call and goes forth to prove that he is truly the king of the jungle...
- Tarzan Untamed
With the speed of the great apes, Tarzan rushed through the jungle toward his home and family. But he was already too late. The marauders had been there before him. His farm was in shambles and no one was left alive. Of his beloved wife there was only a charred, blackened corpse, still wearing the rings he had given her. Silently, he buried the body and swore his terrible vengeance against those who had done this terrible deed. Then he set out grimly to track them...through warring armies...across a vast desert that no man had ever crossed...and to a strange valley where only madmen lived.
Edgar Rice Burroughs
Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) had various jobs before getting his first fiction published at the age of 37. He established himself with wildly imaginative, swashbuckling romances about Tarzan of the Apes, John Carter of Mars and other heroes, all at large in exotic environments of perpetual adventure. Tarzan was particularly successful, appearing in silent film as early as 1918 and making the author famous. Burroughs wrote science fiction, westerns and historical adventure, all charged with his propulsive prose and often startling inventiveness. Although he claimed he sought only to provide entertainment, his work has been credited as inspirational by many authors and scientists.
