- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Overall, I enjoyed the book, and it seems like a good set up for a teen series. I thought the characters were each very diverse (strong, weak, honorable, flawed, etc.), and I got to know each through the well developed story. One thing that made me take pause was the negative reference to “social justice warriors.” Don’t worry no spoilers here because it is never explained who they are and their relevance to the story. It made me wonder, does the author have a personal distaste for those who fight for social justice? I have no idea if books 2 or 3 will connect “social justice warriors” to the collapse of the world order, but nothing of the sort happened in book 1. Seems out of place, irrelevant, and left me confused as to why it was brought up more than once. At this point I felt disengaged from the story and considered whether I should continue reading. The need to shove this into the story didn’t seem to match the thoughtfully developed characters and plot. Aside from that it was a well developed story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fantastic story - engaging, interesting, brutal! I love the introduction of the scabs!
