The manner in which the narrator was able to speak the tones of the different characters with such fluency in 18th-century and 19th-century classical English was quite incredible. An informative and moral story it was indeed!

A book of hates and loves, some think it is the great work of American literature, others say it is a complex book filled with technical literature. For me; a different book, full of abstract messages and reflections. It is difficult to read but has a great philosophical structure. It tells the story of the hunt for a great white whale, by a captain blinded by hate and revenge, because that same whale had severed a leg from him years earlier. (Translated from Spanish)

A classic that one must read, but you need to be patient. I loved it more towards the end when I got used to the narrative style. After the 70%, I really enjoyed it a lot. (Translated from Spanish)

One of my greatest mistakes was not encouraging myself earlier to read this wonderful book written in the 19th century. When it is said that Melville savors words, it is serious, as in this book time ceases to be relevant in the face of such a meticulous and sublime narration. That said, be prepared for a book that takes its time to progress, to be digested, that does not flow. It is quite a metaphysical book, and in some chapters it becomes rather long.
Although the grotesque concept of the book is about whaling and the way they captured them, only this magnificent writer can turn such a disastrous subject into such a wonderful book. Thus, I affirm that this is one of the best books that can be considered part of North American literature. (Translated from Spanish)

I read this book because of the huge influence it has in literature; however, the immense title it bears comes with a stigma of not reminding that the book is dense and not meant for everyone. If you are able to have the curiosity and interest for a maritime story about a man who is learning the good craft of the sea, which is seasoned with the incredible and harsh story of a captain desperately fighting against a force of nature. Moby Dick
    Herman Melville

The crew of the ship "The Pequod" embarks on a whale hunt, although in reality Captain Ahab is obsessed with a whale named Moby Dick that mutilated one of his legs, and he wants to get his revenge at any cost.

An adventure novel considered a classic of the genre and of world literature. The first part of the novel felt a bit tedious to me without much action, with descriptions about whale hunting, types of whales, types of ships, and many maritime terms. There are many reflections, philosophical and religious aspects throughout the novel. (Translated from Spanish)

Personally, if I had started reading it in my adolescence, I wouldn't have finished it; at times the reading becomes somewhat heavy due to the poetic tone used to describe certain situations. However, what I found very interesting was the way the parts of the whales were described; they had a lot of knowledge about it for the time, and the way whale hunting was carried out is interesting and quite risky. What can be said about a classic? I liked that way of narrating. It's a journey to the past. It has that flavor of ideas and thoughts from the era. Some descriptive chapters about whaling culture are somewhat boring; they are interesting but don't add anything to the story itself. The truth is that if we consider ourselves good readers, we must at least say that we have read Moby Dick. It is part of general culture. Definitely, Captain Ahab is one of those characters with a life of his own..! (Translated from Spanish)

It's definitely not my time for this book, or it's not in the genre, or it didn't reach my heart. But I read it reluctantly, and for the most part, I listened to the audiobook, which was the only way to tolerate it... Because it felt heavy, dense, and almost nothing interesting. Once again: the review is a personal opinion. (Translated from Spanish)

Although interesting and appealing at times, it is difficult for a lengthy book to keep the reader captivated throughout all its chapters, and this book was no exception. I lost interest in certain chapters. A good book for me, but sometimes less is more. (Translated from Spanish)

A book that, when reaching the climax, makes you want to know more and erases the idea of wanting to put it down due to the countless times it strays from the main theme. It's an exquisite book and, although at times it becomes tedious to continue (and many times it left me wanting to put it down for a moment), finishing it and reaching the end is a true satisfaction. Ahab's madness and obsession for the white whale, his belief that all evil is summed up in that whale, and the unattainable desire to kill it concludes in a scene that – as I mentioned before – leaves you wanting more. In short, Melville will never cease to be mentioned as the author of a classic of literature. A huge and fantastic classic of literature. (Translated from Spanish)

    Synopsis:
Moby Dick is a novel by American writer Herman Melville, published in 1851, and now regarded as a classic of Western literature. It tells the story of the whaling ship Pequod, commanded by Captain Ahab, who is determined to seek revenge against a legendary white whale known as Moby Dick.

    Opinion:
Moby Dick: "It was larger than the largest sperm whale and as white as snow, especially when seen gliding at noon across the dark sea, leaving a wake like the Milky Way, made of foamy cream." These were the most characteristic traits of Moby Dick's "self."
Thus, in the end, Old Thunder, disturbed by his past, could not escape his only and fatal destiny. "Death."
Let’s say that his "self" transfigured into "his shadow."? (Translated from Spanish)

I wanted to read it because of the movie, thinking it would be an adventure novel, but it has been the complete opposite. It seems like the diary of its protagonist Ismael. Very slow, very descriptive, hard to understand, and the whale is missing for the great majority of the book. A big disappointment for me. (Translated from Spanish)

    "They can call me Ishmael..."

Melville's masterpiece, one of the stories that will live forever in libraries and home shelves around the world. A young man ready for adventure, who embarks towards his destiny on the mythical Pequod. The dark figure of the ship's captain, Ahab, along with his first mate Starbuck and a convinced crew ready to hunt the legendary white whale and all the sinister stories it carries with it. It is worth noting the inseparable and endearing friendship between the protagonist and Queequeg, a remarkable harpooner, as well as all the life lessons that Ishmael learns along the journey aboard. A voyage and an adventure wrapped in a personal vendetta, which takes the crew and the reader on a mythical and dramatic journey, from which only Ishmael escapes to tell the tale. This is one of those books where there is no middle ground; you either love it or hate it. One must take into account the thinking of the time to understand it or at least try to, as it was advanced and innovative then, but today it can become tedious. It has a good plot, correct narration, and a deep portrayal of the characters, especially the irrational obsession of Captain Ahab and his shadow protagonist (Moby Dick). However, every page hurts; it is slow and at times feels suffocating, with endless pages of descriptions that seem like a thesis or an essay. I think it is a book to be read very slowly. A masterful work of American literature. There are informative parts that complement the work, making it more complete. However, these informative sections may be unnecessary for some readers, as these "filler" chapters can make the work a bit slow. That said, the action chapters are extremely exciting, entertaining, and addictive. (Translated from Spanish)

I don't feel entitled to rate a classic like this with one star, so I give it two, but the reality is that I didn't like it. I found it very heavy to read despite being so short; I have to say that I've wanted to read it for years, and it has disappointed me quite a bit. I really haven't abandoned it because of the book it is. I don't regret having read it because I know that sooner or later I would have ended up reading it, but I doubt that I will do so again or recommend it. I emphasize that this is just my opinion, but it is necessary for me to be honest and objective about what the book has conveyed to me, and it has been rather little or practically nothing. One of the essential classics to read at least once in a lifetime. Like Captain Ahab, reading it is a constant struggle to reach the end, where in its last two chapters, out of the 134 that make up the work, the battle with the great white whale is resolved. The rest of the novel is a heavy compendium of oceanography, zoology, politics, and maritime philosophy that is difficult to read in some of its chapters. Nevertheless, the struggle to reach the final chapter compensates for its long and tedious reading, as reaching the end brings a complete, incredible, special feeling of having traversed all the oceans and learned from the maritime experience and the consequences of such a tedious quest. Moby Dick is complex to review; it is an adventure book but is also a guide to understanding the work of whalers and their harpoons, the types of whales, among other related topics. There are very well-developed characters about whom you will always want to know more, mainly Captain Ahab, who has an unforgivable hatred for his worst enemy, the white whale that took one of his legs in their first encounter, called "Moby Dick." When you read this book, do not have expectations; simply surrender to a different story, full of knowledge and an incredible narration filled with waves, salt, and many whales.
