About this audiobook
When the solar flares first erupt, Cameron tries to rationalize the disaster away. The electrical grid will come back up. The government will reassure the panicked populace. The hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes will abate. Most importantly, Cameron’s husband and daughter will get home safely from New York City.
Instead, Cameron finds herself alone as the world tears itself apart.
Her best hope for refuge is the family’s isolated cabin, but distance isn’t the only obstacle Cameron faces. Society has been destroyed, and a bunch of scared, confused people are trying to figure out how to survive. They need a leader with a firm grip on reality and a steady hand, but does Cameron want the responsibility of so many lives?
Meanwhile, Cameron’s family travels across a ruined America in a quest to reunite with her. Alex believes that his wife is safe at their cabin in the Pacific Northwest, but he doesn’t know if his diabetic daughter, Piper, can survive the journey without access to insulin. As father and daughter fight to survive, they bear witness to not only the horrific violence desperation unleashes but also the grace and compassion of ordinary people.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Fast-paced easy listening, but certain things ruined it like calling a magazine a clip and saying shotguns don't have safeties. Author takes a lot of liberties with how things would happen, so all personal electronics (radios, cellphones, cars, etc) continue working after the EMP for some reason.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Absolutely excellent book. I loved every minute. Fast paced, yet so believable. I was on the edge of my seat in the last few chapters! Strong female characters, with common sense!!! yet even the small supporting characters, many of whom were flawed were so well written I was cheering for them. Highly recommend!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great book it was a wonderful read and very thought provoking but the final moments I felt was lacking maybe it’s just me but don’t let this stop you from reading this because I would give book another read
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I've read dozens of apocalyptic books and this one makes the bottom of my list. It was very sophomoric (underdeveloped and inconsistent character behaviors) and predictable (repeated victory over outnumbered odds). Limited suspense and only a smattering of ideas for someone who might want to prepare such a scenario. The author threw in just a tad of information about how bad this type of event could be which was disappointing.
I would recommend reading other apocalyptic books and saving this for when you have nothing else to read or if you simply want a feel good mindless read. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This book checks all the boxes. Strong female lead who knows how to fight, shoots guns and runs stuff. You’ve got every race, in all their peaceful splendor while several of the white characters are classically racist and judgmental. Typical white people. And you’ve got to love the casual us of Christ and Jesus Christ as expletives. Special read right here, enjoy. Narrators were actually pretty good.
