Author

JJ Makenzie

JJ Makenzie is a USA Today bestselling author of rom-coms and contemporary romance. She also pretends to be a rock star in her car. She’s obsessed with 70s and 80s music but also has a soft spot for a good country ballad. Her days are spent writing among the beautiful Rocky Mountains. At night she dreams of all the characters she has yet to introduce to the world. She may also be a crime fighter, but that’s another story.

The author is a great writer and very descriptive, this was just boring in my opinion. A lot of new people and battles and kingdoms with weird names. Basic.

This is a combined **REVIEW FOR BOTH BOOKS**
    Book 1&2

Ok so…WOW!!! What a beautiful story and a very lucky pick for me. You know when you have see a book (cover, title..) and just know that it’s going to be good? Well this was it. I usually spend way too much time looking for my next book. Then later looking at+reading reviews, only to end up adding/saving a whole bunch to my lists to read in the future. I cried till my eyes were red n puffy. I felt an almost instant connection to the MFC/H in book 1. The author has a way of making you feel like you’re experiencing everything the H goes through..anger, betrayal, loneliness, pain, hope, faith, attraction, love+ with so many changing emotions throughout the story. I wish that we got to know both MCs sides in both books rather than only in the 2nd book. It would’ve been better- but that’s just my opinion and it’s obviously amazing the way it is, I just really gravitate towards books where there’s multiple POVs especially when it comes to Romance. There’s lots of death+violence(the brink of war). A pretty important part focuses on abuse of power (forcing physical labour, emotional/psychological abuse..etc). The series does end in a HEA but the journey is full of obstacles, challenges and lots of growing/learning. I don’t know how to describe/explain this.. but.. there were many times that the subject was sex but wasn’t actually ABOUT sex (1 subject different categories???)but there are no detailed descriptions of any acts being carried out (only once but it was the first time kissing). Overall I really enjoyed this story and the narration was also great. 1st book is all in the female voice and only the last chapter is male. 2nd book alternates between male/female voices.
