Description

Ian Dinwiddy is the founder of Inspiring Dads, which aims to help HR Leaders support their new dads, enhancing gender equality at home and at work, and improve well-being, performance and culture.
Ian joins Lucinda this week, to talk about why inspiring and supporting new dads across organisations provides a significant route to gender equality.
KEY TAKEAWAYS

A parental transition for anyone is tricky, and requires support. But in the case of dads, there is a tendency to sometimes overlook their needs, or be slightly more dismissive.
Slipping into gender stereotyping can be very easy when we become parents. Tradition suggests that women should remain home and men should immediately return to work. But we live in a world where conversations about this stereotyping should be encouraged. We must remove the stigma surrounding men who choose to be the one to stay at home.
In terms of equality, the companies that stand out are the ones who combine their policies on leave, and look for overarching strategies that work for any case.
Allowing men to take leave will eventually re-align the stereotypical way of thinking - that becoming a parent makes you somehow less effective in the workplace.

BEST MOMENTS
'We helped stressed dads to balance work and fatherhood'
'In order to promote gender equality, it should be just as easy for men to stay at home'
'However you become a parent, you are entitled to the same amount of leave'
'It changes your perspective of roles and responsibilities in the business'
