Description
Hey Podcast. I’ve got something a little different for you today! Jamie Ironmonger’s mission is to get the word about mental health awareness out there, particularly in the emergency services. Like us, he’s a fellow mountain biker.
Jamie used to be an armed police officer. His personal stresses were brought on by work related stress, a broken marriage, losing friends and colleagues to suicide and the after effects of a freak accident. The drip, drip, drip of mental stress eventually culminated him in stepping down from armed response and joining the MOD Police. A decision partly due to the fact he was overwhelmed of the stigmatism that speaking up about his mental state, stresses worries could have had.
Jamie is now raising money for MIND charity and in 2 weeks time will be attempting to reach the summit of Everest - the highest point in the world and an achievement only around 4000 people in the world have ever achieved since Sir Edmund Hillary did it for the first time in 1953. The highest point is 8848 metres - or the cruising altitude of a passenger jet! It has claimed the lives of 293 people attempting to summit since 1953, an average of 4 per year. As of today he’s raised £5,721 let’s get the number up!
