Description
In the Texas Bowl on Wednesday night, Rashod Owens achieved a career-high of 164 receiving yards, scoring two touchdowns, while Brennan Presley matched a school record with 16 receptions and contributed 152 receiving yards in Oklahoma State's 31-23 triumph over Texas A&M.
Ollie Gordon II, recipient of the Doak Walker Award, added 118 rushing yards, concluding the season with 2,062 yards of offense. This performance helped Oklahoma State (10-4) secure double-digit wins for the second time in three seasons, following their 12-2 finish in 2021. Quarterback Alan Bowman threw for 402 yards, registering two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Although Oklahoma State led by 18 points at halftime, a 51-yard field goal by Randy Bond brought the Aggies to 31-23 with approximately five minutes remaining. The Cowboys missed a 47-yard field goal attempt with 17 seconds left, providing the Aggies (7-6) with another opportunity to score. However, Marcel Reed's pass was intercepted by Kendal Daniels in the end zone on the last play of the game.
Jaylen Henderson, the starting quarterback for the Aggies, exited the game after sustaining an injury on the first play. His legs were taken out from under him during a tackle following a short pass.
In other news, Texas A&M played under interim coach Elijah Robinson in the absence of recently appointed head coach Mike Elko, who did a brief interview on television during the first half. The Aggies, dealing with roster challenges, had over a dozen players in the transfer portal, and key players like Ainias Smith were sidelined due to injuries.
Despite a second-half interception by Dalton Brooks on Bowman's pass, the Aggies capitalized on the mistake, with Kendal Daniels scoring a 2-yard run to narrow the score to 24-13. Owens' second touchdown reception, an 18-yard grab in the third quarter, extended the lead to 31-13. Reed's 20-yard touchdown run in the same quarter brought the Aggies within 31-20.
In the fourth quarter, A&M was driving when Amari Daniels fumbled on the 1-yard line after a 34-yard reception. However, the Cowboys returned the favor when Sam Mathews intercepted Bowman's pass a few plays later.
