Description

Please join us on Wednesday, October 12th, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Brookwood Public Library for the first of two Strategic Planning Community Forums.
It has been more than ten years since the Hillsboro School District went through a comprehensive strategic planning process, and we want to ensure all voices are heard as we develop the goals, objectives and metrics that will provide the strategic direction for our district over the next four years and beyond.
This in-person session will feature language support in Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, and Somali. If you need support in a different language, please contact our Language Liaison team at 503-844-1429 at least 24 hours in advance.
If you are unable to attend the forum on the 12th, please plan to participate in our virtual Community Forum on Thursday, October 27th, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Zoom.
If you are unable to participate in either event but would still like to provide your feedback, watch for next week’s Hot News where we’ll share a survey that will be open through November 4th.
Our Featured Project is Community Supported Agriculture Boxes created by Liberty High School’s Falcon Farm. Falcon Farm is part of the school’s Career and Technical Education Sustainable Agriculture program. Students in the Sustainable Agriculture program of study, led by CTE Teacher Paul Lardy, have the opportunity to learn firsthand what it takes to grow, care for, and manage sustainably grown produce. This fall, Falcon Farm launched the sale of Community Supported Agriculture - or CSA - produce boxes to district staff.  Boxes have included a variety of produce, notably an option for a Salsa Box including ingredients and a recipe card for homemade salsa. Boxes were designed and built by the CTE Sustainable Design program, championed by teacher Kevin Crabtree, which is housed in the same location as the Ag program. Together, the programs have branded themselves the School of Sustainability. High quality CTE programs of study offer real-world, industry-standard experiences through work-based learning and school-based enterprises like the Falcon Farm.
Hot News is produced and emailed to HSD families and staff each week school is in session. Please add the address to your “safe sender” list to make sure you always receive the latest issue. Please also bookmark our district website: hsd.k12.or.us and the 2022-23 School Year page: hsd.k12.or.us/202223schoolyear to stay informed about what’s happening in our district and schools.
