LSU baseball made history Sunday night during the MLB Draft becoming the first school to produce the first and second overall picks in the same MLB Draft. Pitcher Paul Skenes was taken first overall to the Pittsburgh Pirates while teammate Dylan Crews was drafted by the Washington Nationals with the second overall pick. Pitcher Ty Floyd joined in on the fun later in the draft taken by the Cincinnati Reds with the 38th overall pick in the competitive balance round and pitcher Grant Taylor going in the second round to the Chicago White Sox. To top it all off, LSU baseball head coach Jay Johnson was at the broadcast desk on the MLB Network breaking down each pick on national television with the MLB Network crew. Plus, a familiar face to LSU baseball fans is headed back to Baton Rouge. It was reported by D1baseball.com and confirmed by Jay Johnson on Monday that he has hired Terry Rooney as the Director of Recruiting and Player Development. Rooney was on Paul Mainieri's staff early in Mainieri's tenure with the Tigers helping lead the 2008 team to Omaha before heading to UCF to serve as their head baseball coach. Rooney was most recently at Purdue serving as their pitching coach and director of recruiting.
