Description

Shortly after graduating college, Jacqueline Child decided to give mainstream dating apps a try—hoping to find her perfect match. Unfortunately for Jacqueline, what she had hoped would be a positive experience to find love while also managing a chronic illness—usually ended with disappointment and discouragement. After a series of bad experiences with many online ‘matches’, Jacqueline and her sister teamed up to create an online dating experience for those with a disability or chronic illness. Thus, Dateability was born. The only app for those dealing with chronic illness or disabilities, this modern dating experience is available across the country to those with an iPhone or Android or via a web application at dateabilityapp.com. In this episode, we talk with Alexa and Jacqueline about creating Dateability, advice for those looking for ‘the perfect match’, and learn more about living with a chronic illness.About Alexa ChildAlexa, the co-founder of Dateability, graduated from Georgetown Law in 2015 and currently works as a public interest attorney. Through witnessing her sister’s experience with disability, Alexa has become an advocate and ally for the disability community. She is passionate about social justice, enjoys TV and film, and loves all things Halloween.  About Jacqueline ChildJacqueline, the co-founder of Dateability, has turned her experience with disability and chronic illness into a new venture. She created Dateability with her sister after years of discouraging ableist experiences on mainstream dating apps. When she isn’t managing her health, Jacqueline enjoys playing the guitar, reading, and volunteering at the local animal shelter. About Exsurco MedicalExsurco engineers high-precision products for both healthcare and tissue bank professionals and is dedicated to advancing the healing power of skin to patients who need it the most.
