Three of this year’s competitors, John Gower, John Patterson, and Matt Abdoo, join Jimmy to talk about spice rubs, pig breeds, HACCP plans, and what drinks pair best with BBQ. John Gower of Quiet Waters Farm in North Devon in the UK will team up again this year with Michigan’s John Patterson, founder of the Facebook group The Salt Cured Pig. The duo took 2nd place last year. Matt Abdoo will compete this year for Pig Beach. Later this week, Pig Beach will also host the Jeff Michner BBQ Benefit in memory of Matt’s brother-in-law, on Saturday, April 13 from 12 - 4 p.m. The event will feature legendary pitmasters, with meat donated by NY Prime Beef, and funds will benefit Jeff’s family.
