Description
This week Jimmy and his guests went on a 11-country European tasting tour with Miguel Rivas, the Beer Trekker who documents his world travels on Instagram. They were joined in the studio by international and domestic beer importers BR Rolya, Joel Shelton, and Lars Dahlhaus. The conversation got deep. It dove into the current state of European and American craft brewing, exports, and imports. Decades ago Jimmy was only drinking German beers, but American craft beers have exploded onto the scene. So much so that a lot of brewers are making IPAs in places like Barcelona. More traditional countries like Germany or Belgium, that are already saturated in rich brewery and beer culture, continue to produce lager and pilsners among other brews that are harder to make with the same quality in the states. They tell colorful stories of the villages and towns that treat beer like it’s part of the family and not just a business. Tastings range from the earthy La Moneuse from Blaugies, Belgium to the 2017 Historical Thomas Hardy’s barley wine from England.

Jen Schwertman and Dave Brodrick from Blind Tiger are in the house, along with Scottish beer guru Bruce Williams of William Bros. Beer Co. Tune in to hear Dave talk about Worthy Burger- his new burger and beer joint in Vermont. Stop in to get some craft beer, and the best grass-fed burger that $5.50 can buy. Tune in to hear Bruce discuss some of the traditional herbs that Williams Bros. uses in some of their brews, and why cask ales are generally served improperly in the United States. Later, Mike Edison of The Mike and Judy Show stops by to talk about his new book, Bye Bye, Miss American Pie, and his love for shower beers. This episode has been sponsored by GreatBrewers.com. Its a nice to have a light beer, but its always been a challenge for a brewer to have a low alcohol beer that has a lot of flavor. Some of your heartier beers- like 10% by Beer Sessions Radio (TM)
