The New York Yankees were powered by a couple of unexpected hitters in their 7-2 victory over the Oakland A’s on Monday night; Oswaldo Cabrera, who hadn’t hit a home run since April 21, and Aaron Hicks, who hadn’t hit a home run since September 2022. DJ LeMahieu and Gleyber Torres also went deep in a ‘must win’ game (and series, let’s be real) for the Yankees in a game against old friend JP Sears. Nestor Cortes lasted five innings and had a better start than his last outing and the bullpen did nice job closing things out. We discuss the Luis Severino situation and lay out a timeline of what’s been happening with him and voice our concerns/confusion over what’s been happening between him and the Yankees with regards to his injury and his rehab timetable. Then we preview the pitching matchup for Game 2 of the series between Drew Rucinski and Clarke Schmidt.
