Description

When our kids are feeling upset, many of us have been told that we need to teach our kids how to self-regulate on their own. But if we take a long hard look into neurodevelopment and how that affects our body and behaviors, and our kids' bodies and behaviors, you can see that kids can’t always regulate themselves. But how do we help them learn to self-regulate then? In this episode, we speak with Dr. Mona Delahook, a Child Psychologist and author of Beyond Behaviors as well as her newest book, Brain-Body Parenting: How to Stop Managing Behavior and Start Raising Joyful, Resilient Kids. She’s a mom to 3 grown kids ranging from 26-34, and is trying to shift the lens and change the paradigm of how our world views challenging behaviors! We talk about how others can experience certain situations in a different way than others, how we can help our kids by using co-regulation, and what can we do as parents to nurture and build our kids’ ability to self-regulate.Resources We Shared:Calm & Happy Parenting Time to get your kids to listen and help out more without the fighting!  This is your complete solution to shift the responsibility of "doing everything for everyone" to your family and to give you the kind of relationship you want with your kids and the entire family!Beyond Behaviors: Using Brain Science and Compassion to Understand and Solve Children's Behavioral Challenges by Mona Delahooke, PhDBrain-Body Parenting: How to Stop Managing Behavior and Start Raising Joyful, Resilient Kids by Mona Delahooke, PhDVisit No Guilt MomRate & Review the No Guilt Mom Podcast on Apple here. Feeling overwhelmed as a mom? Tired of doing everything for your kids and wish… just wish… someone would step in to help you out? Welcome to the No Guilt Mom parenting podcast hosted by author, teacher & parenting coach JoAnn Crohn, M.Ed and co-host parenting coach & educator, Brie Tucker. Every Tuesday, we give you practical advice for moms and positive parenting tips - all without the shame and guilt. We make it fun. We’re from a generation where our moms were supposed to be able to do it all. They went to work and yet were still expected to take care of the house and kids. Our moms put everything extra they had into us kids and we realize there is a better way. The way to give your kids your best is to give yourself the very best - without the mom guilt. How to master positive parenting without doing absolutely everything. That means focusing on what you like to do. If you don’t like playing LEGO’s on the floor with your kids, you don’t have, too. In my parents’ generation, moms gave up everything for their kids and I don’t want to do that. Kids who learn how to be self-sufficient are happier kids and have happier moms. Welcome to the No Guilt Mom podcast!
