Description

Diabetes is a disease where your body either can't produce insulin or can't properly use the insulin it produces. Insulin is an important hormone produced by your pancreas that regulates the amount of sugar in the blood. In the United States alone 37.3 million people are diagnosed with diabetes - that's over 10% of the population. But living with diabetes does not mean living a restricted or unbalanced life!    In today’s episode, I talk to Kristie, a Certified Diabetes Care, and Education Specialist. During her seven years of being a dietitian, Kristie was always engulfed in the diet culture world, especially in regards to weight loss and diabetes management, which didn't align with her morals so she made the switch to focusing on support for diabetes and diabetes management.    During our conversation, Kristie shares how the dietetics community really lacked the support and understanding for diabetes and diabetes care. She explains what Health at Every Size means when it comes to approaching diabetes, challenges with weight loss when managing diabetes, and why diabetes is not a death sentence!       In this episode, we cover: Kristie shares how she got into dietetics and how Health at Every Size is applied to diabetes [1:57] Misinformation and adding morals to food when it comes to diabetes [8:21] The biggest challenges women face when managing diabetes [12:54] Low calorie does not mean lower blood sugar and other things you need to unlearn [18:02] Switching the mindset to gentle nutrition [24:40] How the Online Entrepreneur Academy has helped Kristie and her business [28:33] Why diabetes is not a death sentence [33:20] Does intermittent fasting help?
