Description

Welcome to episode 104 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast! We’ve got a mind blowing episode this week! On the show we have Thomas Ogander, the mastermind behind the One Water Race, who joins us to share the story of, what is sure to be, one of the toughest endurance events in the world. Make sure you’re sitting down for this one!But first... Training UpdateThis is the final “our off-season is almost over” update because starting next week we’re back to training for ÖTILLÖ Catalina and Swimrun Lake James.ShoutoutsThis week we’re shouting out to our four new Patrons on Patreon: Lee, Helene, Lindsey, and Amy. We’re super grateful for your support! You all rock! Feats of EnduranceThis week’s Feats of Endurance winner is Lars Finanger. You might know him as the Race Director of Ödyssey Swimrun, but what you might not know about Lars is that he’s capable of just casually dropping a 10,000yd swim in just under 2.5 hours on Christmas Eve like it’s nobody’s business. Strong work!Check out and join our Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for Swimruns and life. This Week In SwimrunWe have a short update this week.Swimrun Lake James only has 34 team spots remaining for their long course distance. This event takes place on April 23, 2022 and it’s a ÖTILLÖ Merit Race for those trying to accumulate ranking points. We’re super stoked to be heading to NC to race this event in a few months! Staying in the western hemisphere, Hero Swimrun in Rio de Janeiro has opened registration for their 2022 event taking place on March 26th. If you can get there to race this year, let us know so we can live vicariously through you! (if you want to learn more about Hero Swimrun, check out our interview with Race Director Fabio Iskandarian.)That’s it for this week. Make sure to tip us off if there is any news that you’d like for us to share on the show.UpdatesAs this is our last episode for 2021, we wanted to thank you all for listening and wish you a safe and healthy 2022.Thomas OganderIt was great to chat with Thomas about the One Water Race and his Swimrun roots. To say that concept of the One Water Race is crazy doesn’t do it justice. This event is going to be a spectacle that combines Swimrunning, adventure racing, orienteering, and just straight up grit. We chatted with Thomas about the genesis of the race, the worthy cause that it champions, and the mechanics of the event. Thomas is also part of the Kraken Swimrun crew so we had to chat with him about that. All in all, this was a great conversation that was blowing our minds while it was happening. You can learn more about the One Water Race here. That’s it for this week’s show.
