Description
Today we’re going to talk about Alzheimer’s disease. I think everyone needs to know this basic information about Alzheimer’s. It may even help you if you have Alzheimer’s disease, or if you want to help prevent it.
With Alzheimer’s disease, the neurons that connect to other neurons, called the synapses, are damaged. They’re damaged to the point where they can’t use glucose fuel efficiently. They’re basically starving to death.
With a normal aging brain, you’ll have a loss of glucose uptake of roughly 10%, but only in the frontal lobe. With this 10% loss, you may not experience any Alzheimer’s symptoms at all.
With the Alzheimer’s brain, there is not only a loss of glucose uptake in the frontal lobe, but it also happens in other parts of the brain as well. More of the brain is involved, and the brain can’t absorb glucose very well anymore.
The good news is that ketones can be used as fuel to bypass the damage and feed the neurons in the brain. Ketones are actually the preferred fuel and the type of fuel that our brains desperately need.
How to feed the brain more ketones:
1. A low-carb diet (healthy keto)
2. Do intermittent fasting
3. Get exogenous ketones (ketone salts)
4. Do MCT oil
