Description

In Episode 91 it's you and me again for another Solo Episode of the Plant Proof Podcast. As usual this episode, focussed on weight loss, is about clearing confusion, breaking down the science and giving you practical tips to walk away with that hopefully allow you to lead a healthier, more sustainable & happier lifestyle. In this episode I cover:Fat shaming versus educating about reducing disease riskSocial media and body imageWhat factors control weight gain or weight loss? What dietary patterns are best for weight loss? Why ultra-processed foods may affect your results? Are high fat or low fat diets best for weight loss?Ketogenic diets and weight loss - a few things to considerDo carbohydrates promote weight gain? How does exercise affect weight loss?Is intermittent fasting useful for weight loss? How quickly should we lose weight? How to stay fuller for longer?Importance of adherenceand much much more including plenty of what I hope are helpful tipsAll in all friends this episode is not about obsessing over belly rolls or cellulite. My aim was to bring you the science minus any fads, quick fixes or any other strategies that get you reaching for your wallet - I simply want you to understand what factors affect your body weight so you can be empowered to take control of your health. I do need to acknowledge that there is an element of privilege associated with being able to implement the information I am sharing. I understand our food system is set up in a way that makes it hard to lose weight - it's called the obesogenic environment after all. Cheap, convenient foods are usually the most unhealthiest. With that said, you can only do the best in your circumstances and by no means do I want you to feel any less about yourself if you are simply doing your best and run off your feet with multiple kids, lots of bills etc, I totally get it - it's the thought and effort that matters most. After recording this I realised that I could almost do a Part 2 episode on weight loss and then another on weight gain for those wanting to add more muscle. I've added that to my list and will use feedback from this episode to dictate the direction of these future episodes.Resources/References:Kevin Hall's study on Ultra-processed foods versus unprocessedLow Fat vs High fat diets in metabolic ward setting - a systematic review of 32 controlled feeding studiesPlant Proof healthy plant based food pyramidGo Fund Me Page for Australian wildfire donations Plant Proof X Journey RetreatFor more information on the July 11-17, 2020 Plant Proof X Journey Retreat please visit here. The retreats are an incredible week - a mix of exercise, connecting with like-minded people, guest speakers, cooking demonstrations, delicious plant-based meals and snacks, massages and plenty of downtime to relax by the pool or explore the local area.Hope you enjoy the episode friends. Join show host and nutritionist Simon Hill as he sits down with doctors, nutritionists, dieticians, athletes and inspiring people challenging the status quo and making positive change in the world. By breaking down the science, and listening to their stories and wisdom, together we can become more mindful and conscious of how we are living and the impact our food choices have on our health, the planet's health and all of those that we share it with. Importantly, in a world where diet has become very divisive Simon has created a safe space to talk about nutrition without judgement. Eat meat or dairy? That's perfectly fine! Contrary to the stereotypical view of vegans, Simon encourages celebration of anyone taking the time to learn more about the food they put other plate. It's not an all or nothing move. While this show is very much about bringing out the knowledge of the wonderful guests it's also good to know you are in good hands - Simon has a Bachelors degree in Physiotherapy, a Masters degree in Nutrition, is Certified in Plant Based Nutrition and is committed to bringing you agenda free information. In addition Simon is writing a book that will be published by Penguin early 2021 - with 100% of his proceeds being donated to charities selected by the Plant Proof community. To connect with Simon on socials you can find him on Instagram and Twitter @plant_proof.
