Description

In Episode 93 I sit back down with Sean Ryan to check in and see how he's been going with his transition to a plant based lifestyle. We pick up from where we left things in Episode 88, review his pre-transition baseline blood work and then spend the majority of the episode dedicated to the walking through cholesterol and how we can use diet to effect our cholesterol levels. At the end we also touch on meal prep, handling social conversations and a few other questions that Sean had since our last episode together.Whether you are thinking about transitioning to a plant-based diet, are currently transitioning or already eat a plant-based diet I think you will take something away from both today's episode and Episode 88.Episode Resources:1 - 2019 ESC/EAS Guidelines for the management of dyslipidaemias: lipid modification to reduce cardiovascular risk2 - 2020 Consensus paper from European Atherosclerosis Society Consensus Panel stating that LDL lipoproteins cause atherosclerosis (narrowing of the artery)3 - ACC guidelines - 2019 ACC/AHA Guideline on the Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease. Recommends people adopt a Mediterranean or Plant-based diet for cardiovascular health.4 - Garden of Vegan Meal Delivery Service (Australian based)Nutrikynd SupplementFrom time to time I am asked what supplements I take. The only supplement I currently take is the Nutrikynd Essential 3 which combines B12, Omega 3 and Vitamin D. Join show host and nutritionist Simon Hill as he sits down with doctors, nutritionists, dieticians, athletes and inspiring people challenging the status quo and making positive change in the world. By breaking down the science, and listening to their stories and wisdom, together we can become more mindful and conscious of how we are living and the impact our food choices have on our health, the planet's health and all of those that we share it with. Importantly, in a world where diet has become very divisive Simon has created a safe space to talk about nutrition without judgement. Eat meat or dairy? That's perfectly fine! Contrary to the stereotypical view of vegans, Simon encourages celebration of anyone taking the time to learn more about the food they put other plate. It's not an all or nothing move. While this show is very much about bringing out the knowledge of the wonderful guests it's also good to know you are in good hands - Simon has a Bachelors degree in Physiotherapy, a Masters degree in Nutrition, is Certified in Plant Based Nutrition and is committed to bringing you agenda free information. In addition Simon is writing a book that will be published by Penguin early 2021 - with 100% of his proceeds being donated to charities selected by the Plant Proof community. To connect with Simon on socials you can find him on Instagram and Twitter @plant_proof.
